His parents just made their inheritance conditional on more grandchildren

We've been together four years, we're engaged and one and done has never been a question between us, it's just what we both want and we've been clear about it since early on. His parents have always had opinions about it but I thought we were past the stage where it had any real effect on anything. Last month they sat us down and laid out what the inheritance situation looks like and made it very clear that it looks different depending on the family we build. My partner played it cool in the moment but I know him well enough to know he wasn't as unbothered as he looked and it's been sitting with me ever since. I'm not trying to blow this up but I've spent years building my savings and investments before this relationship and someone else's money is not going to get a say in something we decided long before they brought it up. The timing of it coming up right before the wedding is not lost on me either and I still need to figure out how to hold that line without blowing up the relationship in the process
