Experience with Avian Pox?
Hey everyone!
So I have this birdfeeder for 3 months now and today was the first time I noticed a sick house finch or at least something unusual on it (see photos) - of course this had to happen on the day we got our first blue jay ever...the finch was behaving totally normal jumping around and eating well, it just had this massive wart on its beak.
I was curious so I asked/used AI as well as the good old google search and quickly found out that this bird probably has dry avian pox.
I didn't hesitate and as soon as I came home from work, I took the feeder down, emptied it out, cleaned it thoroughly and put it away for now.
I guess I have multiple questions: What do you think based on the attached images? Have any of you had experiences with avian pox? Were you successful by keeping the feeder away for 2 weeks or did sick birds return right after putting it back up? Also, based on the pictures, do you think this bird is already at the end of the "healing up stage"?
Any comment or feedback is appreciated!
