Seriously looking at attending college to become a LMHC. Curious about experience opportunities to help decide? Details below
I'm looking at starting the education process to become a LMHC with a focus on resolving childhood trauma in young adults. I've enrolled in a summer class at my local community college while planning to take on more of a class load in the fall while applying for an undergrad psych program for the fall of 2027. If I'm being honest with myself, these last few months have had me back and forth on this decision. Is there a way to get experience in this field without having formal education that doesn't involve volunteering with a crisis help line? I've found a passion, genuine interest, and deep respect for this field while working through my own past and want to be involved, but am struggling to decide to commit for some reason.
