I’ll mostly let them explain their perspective in their own words, but which questions should I ask?

Context:

I’m not sure if them being non-vegan is a deal-breaker, so I at least want to explore their perspective because we generally avoid discussing it.

They are already more plant-forward but they do eat meat and dairy. They occasionally express disgust at certain animal fats – something about rendering down a body’s fat feels more graphic to them, I guess. They dislike protein obsession and those who brag about how many chickens they’ve killed to get mildly muscular. They have considered going vegetarian because of health conditions. They were on a no oil vegan diet as a child by doctors so they view being vegan for themself as misery / restriction. They are very supportive of me being vegan. I don’t expect them to ever go fully vegan.

Some questions I am considering asking, albeit maybe with different phrasing because these sound harsh and accusatory:

  1. I believe that you love some animals, but if you support factory farming and eating animals unnecessarily, I don’t think you love animals in general (only when it’s convenient to you). Do you agree?

  2. What do you feel about the way animals are treated to get us various animal products (I’ll go over multiple).

  3. I believe that it is ok to restrict a child to only eat vegan food as much as it is ok to restrict a child’s diet for religious reasons, at least for whatever I personally purchase for them. Do you think that is too controlling, and is it different than religious restrictions to you?

  4. What is fundamentally different from doing this all to animals as opposed to humans? In what ways is it different to you?
