Hi guys,

I'm thinking of applying to China for my masters, I am a british passport holder, so as an overseas applicant, what is more prioritised in an application for competitive courses, is it the bachelor uni ranking or my GPA? And does a higher HSK score make an application competititive or is it simply that I'll have to pass it?

Many thanks to anyone who could share some light on this!

why are lecturers so crap at teaching when its supposedly ranked 2nd in the world? Sure they are researchers not teachers but maybe we pay to come here to learn??? So perhaps quality of TEACHING at a place where you PAY TO LEARN should be decent?
The fact that uni lecturers are worse than sixth form maths teachers is astonishing. The worse is that you can't sue them or even get a refund since its so standardised.

Edit: So far this year there has been a total of 4 times where the lecturer forgot to turn on the recording. Including the most important pre-final revision session, where he simply sent a msg sorry guys just watch last year's lecture.

The finals week has not been easy, my friend said there's plenty crying in the library at 3am and bare in mind these ppl got 3/4 A* to get in.

It is not that there's "high workload" or that the material are hard, it's the fact that they don't bother to teach and the organisation's carelessness that is the issue. The amount of people failing who once achieved 3/4 A* I believe reflects the poor teaching quality rather than the exam difficulty or the student's ability. Yet no one talks about this, those who fail is simply labelled as not trying hard enough.

Also a fun fact, the current year 3 cohort started wth 220 in year 1, 170 in year 2, 150 in year 3. The "drop out" rate you see on the website is people that dropped out of uni all together. Vast majority switch unis to UCL/manchester etc which aren't in the statistic. Or many internationals end up going to Australia where its easier for the mental health.

And also, it's in the imperial student's best interests to make imperial seem like a nice place, since more people applying > more competitive > higher rankings, all of which benefits imperial students in the job market. Thus there's no incentive for the institution to improve anything since THOUSANDS of people apply and are willingly giving their parents' money away. Lecturers aren't teachers, Imperial isn't a place for growth, I think its fair to say the entire organisation is a scam. But none can do.
