[HELP] [OPINION] tipping my toes into English poetry

I am not a native English speaker but it is basically my 2nd first language so I felt like after high school I was in the clear to say that there's no such thing as English poetry as it's just mostly people reading vague wording slowly and that's what passes as poetry in English.

I am otherwise a Literature lover with a soft sacred spot for poetry hence the strong opinions on the matter. I also pride myself in being fair and a truth seeker so when this idea came up again I decided to revise it and reassess my position and I realized most of my poetry experience is from school and although our English curriculum was pretty good there's definitely a bias in what literature I got to see. we had some of the classics like Sylvia plath and that's all I cared to remember, it was really really sad stuff ( hence my strong opinions again ). Any further interaction with poetry was from poetry lovers whom I told my strong opinion and they showed me some things which the only thing close to being being good was from Tolkien of all people. So it's not fair if I don't give English a real try but I don't even know where to start reading so I'm asking y'all. I welcome all recommendations and don't be afraid of being niche, hell I wouldn't mind reading your personal writing it doesn't have to be all business.

This topic is kind of important to me beyond just being fair because people keep referring to the things I write and say as poetry and I find that an insult to poetry. I look forward to your recommendations

p.s. I'm not buying any books for this
