[HELP] forgot the name/author of a poem i loved...

It MIGHT have been Corso, it looked like this:

we caroused ____did the bars ________became fast friends

That triplet sticks out so strong in my memory tho i might be confusing words. Pretty solid on "caroused" bc what a strange word.

A teacher showed us this poem in eighth grade, but she had at least slightly eclectic taste - eclectic enough to show us some of Kerouac and Ginsberg's friends in their unit; not eclectic enough that this would have been from some truly no-name or a recent writing in the style of _.

It was a short poem - no more than like 16 lines at most. i can't remember the middle, which is what i would love to read again.

but it ended in something like

"you've brought something into the world to die!"

that, an exclamation from the narrator's friend upon the friend seeing the narrator's infant child.

Okay, don't call me strange for saying i love this poem lmao, it made me think about edgy artists squaring their identities of artist and real person

edit: Idk how to reddit so pretend instead of underscores it's just whitespace; all i mean is i remember a style of increasing indent per line in each stanza. And the double spacing is reddit's decision not mine; i just remember those three lines, normal spaced but increasing indent, being the opening lines in the first stanza

[OPINION]

Hello everyone

I was wondering if anyone had any poem suggestions that have this cathedral, night, and romantic vibe going on?
I know Bells by Edgar Allan Poe has a similar vibe but I was just wondering if there’s any more :)
Thanks

[OPINION] What are some poems you've learned by heart recently?

Had a poetry recital for one of our class outputs and it made me realize how enjoyable it was to not only be able to recite poems, but also learn them by heart. They have a soothing effect somehow, even when I'm only reciting them to myself.

That being said, are there any poems you have learned by heart recently that have made you feel the same? Do you have any thoughts on learning poems by heart itself? I'd like to hear your thoughts and suggestions! :)

[poem] Threads Of A Tattered Flag

For the last 250 years lady liberty has worn the ole red,

White and blue, symbolizing the glory of freedom, valar

And virtue, where our four fathers built this nation on blood,

Sweat and tears, having faith, having faith over fear, for the

Last 250 years the old red, white and blue has been flown

For me and you,the threads of tattered flag has stood the

Test of time, threads of a tattered flag at home or behind

Enemy lines....

Threads of a tattered flag just as vibrant today as the day

It was made, threads of a tattered flag in all its splendor

And swag, flying high like a beackon of hope and true

American pride, from the Atlantic to the Pacific side, from the

Gulf shores to the mountains high, well the threads of a

Tattered Flag still touches the sky in all its splendor and

Swag,threads of a tattered flag,threads of a tattered flag...

Just like it was 250 years ago when George Washington

Came to Betsy Ross with the sketch and the idea of the

Strips and stars and hence thereafter has lived in every

American heart,in the good times and when things seemed

To be falling apart the U.S.A. never lost its way even

When things got a little dark, just like it was 250 years ago

When George Washington came to Betsy Ross with nothing

But a sketch and an idea of the strips and stars....

Threads of a tattered flag, just as vibrant today as it was

The day it was made, threads of a tattered flag in all its

Splendor and swag, flying high like a beackon of hope and

True American pride, from the Atlantic to the Pacific side

From the Gulf shores to the mountains high, the threads of

A tattered flag still touches the sky in all its splendor and swag

Threads of a tattered flag, threads of a tattered flag!

[META] Not that I don’t think he’s a great poet, but what’s with all the Langston Hughes popping up?

No exaggeration, scrolling through this subreddit rn every second poem is by Langston Hughes. An amazing poet for sure, and he’s written some of my favourite political poems, but that’s a lot. It’s been like that for a few days, and it’s multiple people posting.

Is there some kind of event going on?
