Verbal agreement about working remote, HR says no 2 weeks before I leave. What's now?

Hi everyone,

I would like your opinions and thoughts about the following situation.

I’ve been working here for 7 years with a permanent contract. Back in February I told my boss I’m moving back to my country (outside EU) end of May. We talked about it and agreed I’d keep working for them through October, maybe do some B2B after that.

Everything was verbally agreed, my boss confirmed it again in March with his boss too.

Then last week, HR shows up saying they have a policy (not written down anywhere) that doesn’t allow remote work. Says it’s too risky to them. I’m 2 weeks away from leaving and now I haven’t even looked for other jobs or properly handed over my work.

I’m thinking of just negotiating a clean exit for example write a proper reference letter, let me work remote for a month to hand things over, and maybe give me a couple weeks salary (3-6) to cover some job-searching period since the last minute agreement change.

Seems fair?

Anyone dealt with this before? What’s actually reasonable to ask for in NL?
