FY1 here - posting on Reddit as I feel like I’m treading on egg shells with this at work.
I have struggled massively with my mental health in the past and had heavy involvement from med school. Upon graduating my dean recommended to my foundation school that I shouldn’t work nights. This was then confirmed by occy health. I was fine with this, but obviously would like to start them at some point as I know it’s a really contentious issue and it makes me feel inferior / less of a doctor that I don’t work the full rota and it just feels a bit shit.
Today, it was mentioned (in an unrelated conversation) that doctors who have a recommendation not to work certain shifts from occupational health should get the same pay as their colleagues who work the full rota. Is this true? It seems unfair, and I would feel too embarrassed to ask my workplace about this, hence why I’m asking here.
Currently, I get paid for the hours I do (not nights).
Thank you for your advice.
