Affinity man…

The more I listen to this album, the more I honestly feel like it’s perfect. The story, the music, the atmosphere, it’s incredible. For a long time I thought Fauna was Haken at their best (I still think it’s their best if we’re strictly talking ability and performance on their instruments), but I’ve come to really appreciate and fucking LOVE Affinity. The electronic vibe fits it so well. This album is just banger after banger.

My favorite part about this album has to be how diverse the music is. Upbeat and energetic in Initiate, 1985, and Lapse, heavy as balls with such a cool riff in Architect (also a phenomenal feature vocalist by Einar), the “pop-iness” of Earthrise, the spaciness of Red Giant, complex riffs of Endless Knot, and don’t even get me STARTED on how beautiful Bound by Gravity is to close the album. It’s just perfect, I can’t seem to find any flaws with this record.

I don’t even know if I could pick a favorite song. Architect is obviously the crescendo of the album but man every single song carries its weight in the grand scheme of the album.

Idk if this post is really relevant but I had to say it to somebody cuz none of my friends like prog 😭😭

Best Backpacking Recommendations?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some 1 or 2 night backpacking route recommendations. I am a fit hiker and am comfortable with longer routes, and I’ll be honest I’m looking for the absolutely golden hikes.

I’m in Cedar City so obviously the Zion Traverse is tempting. Kings peak would also be really cool, but I’m curious what you guys would recommend. Preferably, I’d be looking for a loop route since I’d most likely be going solo. I’m willing to drive as far as needed if it’s worth it.

Wanting to pursue Mount Adams as my first mountaineering summit

Hi everyone, I am an avid hiker and for the last few weeks I have been challenging myself to some harder climbs. I live in Utah, and recently I’ve done the Devil’s Castle in Alta, Wheeler Peak in Great Basin, and the Mountain of the Sun in Zion. I also regularly do very long day hikes with a decent amount of gain.

Recently I’ve been feeling drawn to mountaineering, and I want to work towards a real summit. My question is, how should I approach this goal? Is this a realistic first climb, or would another mountain suit me better? Also, is this something that should be done through a guide or can I prepare and summit it without paying for a service? Would it be unwise to do this solo?

Sorry if this is a common question, I just really want to make sure I do this right. Any and all advice would be truly appreciated 🙏

Mount Whitney

I’m pretty new to the scene, and a goal I want to push for is to summit Mount Whitney. I’ve recently submitted Wheeler Peak in Great Basin and Devil’s Castle in Alta, Utah. I’ve also done some 10+ mile hikes with minimum 3k feet gain in Bryce Canyon, Zion, and a hike in Grand Canyon from the North Rim to Manzanita (4,300 ft gain).

My question is, how can I prepare for Whitney? What skills are most important to hone in? I live in Cedar City Utah, so I’d like to find some good mountains close by to train on. Obviously I have the Wasatch and Uintas up north, but I’m curious if there’s anything closer.

I’m still pretty new to this so I’d love some advice. Thanks in advance 🙏

String Lake bear question

Hi everyone, in a few days I’ll be driving through grand Teton and I was thinking about going to string lake to watch sunrise and maybe swim a little into the late morning. My question is will bear spray be necessary for me? I was planning on just finding a spot right by the parking lot at the water, and I really don’t feel like spending money on bear spray if I don’t have to. I won’t be doing any hiking so I assumed I’d be fine, but I’ve seen some people say that bears have been spotted near the parking lot.

TLDR: Is bear spray necessary if I’ll just be going to string lake for a sunrise swim, planning to stay near to the parking lot

This job market is gonna be the death of me

I can’t take it anymore. All I want is ONE fucking job just to pay for my past current and upcoming college tuition. Every single place you go into has some stupid fucking website where you put in an application and hear absolutely nothing. Every single job listed near me is for a fucking corporate business giving out the bare minimum to keep people employed.

I go into literally anywhere and ask about a job and it’s always “oh well if you go on our website you can apply there! We don’t take physical applications or resumes.” What the hell have we come to? I’m not even that old and I remember getting a job in high school was so easy it was almost a joke. Literally all you had to do was show up and you probably got the job.

This is ridiculous. I’m going into my last year of college and all I want is something giving me income so I don’t have too much debt when I graduate. I’ve applied to pretty much everything in my town and I only landed one interview. Sure enough when I show up THE FUCKING MANAGER ISNT THERE and they can’t do my interview. No heads up, no just-so-you-know email, I show up and they’re like oh so sorry but we had to reschedule everything.

Sorry that was a little more angry and longer than I anticipated. I’m just so frustrated. I’m dirt broke man I need some money. God Bless

More music like PFM?

I can’t stop listening to Per Un Amico, it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite albums ever. I went through a little bit of PFM’s discography, but nothing is really hitting that spot. Would appreciate some album recs

Wheeler Peak (Great Basin NP)

Has anyone done this hike recently? I’m thinking about heading to Great Basin this upcoming week and am curious about conditions for this hike. I’m also wondering if it requires any special footwear/gear. Thanks!
