Ford Fusion Energi w/ bad battery

Hey guys, a few days ago I test-drove a 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Titanium with 105,000 miles. It was listed for $13,500 which is lower than what we’ve found in our area. It was also in GREAT condition, even before the dealer’s detailing. It had complete service records and had all the upgrades we wanted. We noticed the EV modes were “unavailable” and the battery percentage went up and down VERY fast when driving (Fifteen or more percent gained braking from 40mph). I’ll add that the vehicle still got 40+ mpg on our drives.

When they got to the inspection, they found out “the battery’s lifespan is expired”. They offered the car to us as-is for $7,500.
Shopping around for replacement batteries, I found a local mechanic that would replace it for $4000 plus $500 labor. Their replacement batteries are remanufactured and have 10-13 miles of range, plus a 12 month warranty.
We are planning on getting a pre-purchase inspection, and are also looking at aftermarket powertrain warranties.

Opinions? Should I buy this car and replace the battery or wait for better options? I absolutely need the car within two months, but we can wait to see if any others come up.
