My first StoPuzzle. I got this for its colors and Japan-meet-cute vibe. The puzzle comes in a nice compact square box with a compact poster to work from. There is also a playlist, but I didn’t check it out. (Anyone here a big playlist fan? Maybe I am missing out.)

I was a bit annoyed that a bunch or duos and trios seemed to be uncut, but it turned out that they actually were cut through, just not fully separated. Once I started building, it was clear why: the fit is pretty tight, similar to Galison, often needing some extra pressure to push together. Some of the knob necks are slim and it made me concerned for their durability, but they stood up to one build and disassembly with no apparent damage, fortunately.

The pieces are smooth, and the colors and image are quite nice. I have a couple more from the brand and really like a lot of their images, so I am hoping the fit on this one is an outlier.

New England Village | Saalfield | 500 pieces | Artist Lucille Hobbie

Second vintage puzzle that I picked up while I was out of town. Nice thick pieces, appealing image. The cut had a bunch of interior pieces that looked like edge pieces, which made it trickier than I’d expected. Fun to do. If any vintage mavens have info on the likely date range, please clue me in.

Idaho Sun Valley | Tuco | 350 to 400 pieces | Superb Series 5980-6

First Tuco! First vintage, for that matter, since thrift/charity stores are thin on the ground in my area — I picked this up recently when I was out of town. The puzzle is in great shape, but I can’t say the same for the box. The pieces are super thick, but tend to jar loose since most have 0-1 knobs. The image isn’t my cup of tea and the trees are pretty blurry, but it was fun to put together. Any vintage mavens able to date this one?

While it is a “gimmick” puzzle where the completed puzzle doesn’t match the box, I got it for the wacky image. I like the quality — the pieces are matte, fit together well, and feel nice and smooth. There isn’t a lot of challenge to it, but it’s fun to do.

I borrowed this one in order to try out Ordinary Habit. It’s a bit blocky, but the feel and colors are very nice. At MSRP, I’d pass, but if a bargain came my way…

I wanted to try a Kinstler puzzle and this one went on sale, so. I like the artwork with its non-stereotypical rodeo outfits. The print is good and the fit is fine, but there is such a lot of glare that I don’t see myself doing another Kinstler, despite the brand’s support of artists, unless they go matte.

I had fun with this one. The fit seems to be much improved from the excessively looseness while the print and piece feel remain quite nice.
