I am looking to an upgrade to my akg's k240 mkii.

I love my AKG K240 MKIIs, except for one thing: the build quality. Two years ago I had a concussion, and since then my head is extremely sensitive to anything too tight, which those K240s are. My head hurts like crazy after 3 or 4 hours of uninterrupted usage. I'm used to it, but I am still seeking an upgrade in build quality, comfort, and sound, while keeping the same sort of sound signature as the K240.

I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 490 PROs that arrived on Saturday, and I hate them a lot. With the Producer pads, sub-bass is all they've got. It buries everything else so all that's just left for games, for example, is music and all the rest is just bad sounding background sound. Not to mention they sound Muddy. Tried EQ, and it only does the job on some songs; on others it just sounds wrong. Mixing pads don't help either, they just make music overly bland.

I'll try getting used to them throughout the forthcoming week, but if not, I'm returning them on Saturday next week.

  • Budget: Around $400 to $500 CAD
  • Source/Amp: MoonDrop Dawn Pro

Thank you in advance for those that will try to help me out! 😄

(Tag flair is unrelated, I would more go for semi-open. But i can try some open-backs again)
