Xbox Elite Conrtoller LB/RB repair
After 5 years of use, my Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 developed issues with the LB/RB buttons registering clicks. I decided to replace the microswitches with new ones.
Stage 1: Disassembly, soldering, and reassembly
I ordered the parts on AliExpress. After a brief soldering job and reassembling the controller, it turned out that the LB/RB buttons could no longer be pressed. At all. I decided to file down the plastic buttons by about 1 mm. However, after this procedure, the buttons stopped actuating the microswitches. It turns out that the button travel distance is so small that literally fractions of a millimeter make a significant difference.
Stage 2: Restoration
Now I had to figure out how to build those fractions of a millimeter back up. I grabbed a reliable two-part acrylic adhesive — Kafuter AB. I applied it with some excess. Then, I ground and sanded it down using a rotary tool. It turned out pretty well, and the controller is now back in full working order.
Pay close attention to the clearances on the controller buttons, and under no circumstances should you lose the conductive foam from the circuit board.
