Can my brother get jail time?
My brother is autistic and extremely aggressive. He hits my mom, throws things at her, and has choked her before. Recently our family cat disappeared, and the next day we found its remains in the toilet. We believe he killed it by sitting on it intentionally. I honestly hate living with him at this point and I’m scared of what he could do next. I don’t know if this is something that can get worse, but it already feels out of control. The problem is I don’t want to destroy my mom emotionally by calling the police or reporting him behind her back, because she still tries to protect him no matter what he does. I’m torn between feeling guilty and feeling like someone needs to step in before something worse happens. I’m also worried nobody will take it seriously because he’s autistic.What should I actually do in this situation? Has anyone dealt with violent behavior like this before? Can authorities force psychiatric help or intervention without just throwing him in jail?
