Unknown neighbours cat keeps meowing and asking to be let in and if do let him in refuses to leave, what should I do?

During the recent heatwave I had my window open and someone’s cat slipped into the house multiple times during dawn and we would only find out about the cat when it was trapped in a guest bedroom as we closed the door unaware of the cat. This happened a few times and in due course I befriended the cat during his subsequent visits and endeavours inside the house by placing water bowl and treats at its favourite location. Recently I managed to get an AC fitted and since then I started hearing yowls and knocking on the window early mornings between 5 and 6. So I started opening the window to let him in. But now the cat refuses to leave or only leaves when he feels like it. the cat has no collar and my immediate neighbours have no idea whose cat it is. What am I supposed to do. I don’t want to be accused of cat napping.

Edit: Only reason I fed him was because on two occasions me and my wife left to work locking up the house only to come home hearing meows in spare bedroom. We then decided to leave some food and water just in case he was trapped without our knowledge.

How is your relationship with your local Bossman?

What’s his name and when did you see him recently? How was the experience??? Also do all Brits have a bossman or are some Brits orphaned or estranged by their Bossman???

Who remembers this remembers this bad boy anthem and still can say the lyrics?

I just wonder which Brit can say the lyrics as a thought experiment?
