Hi, I’ve recently moved to the UK. I want to make my neighbours feel comfortable and have a good impression of me and my family moving in next door, especially because minorities are sometimes portrayed negatively.
What are some nice things people do when they move into a new neighbourhood?
I already sent some food over. When I greeted them afterwards, they seemed to be in a bit of a rush and didn’t seem like were interested in conversation so I didn’t introduce - just said hello how are you
I really like having friendly relationships with neighbours because it makes living somewhere feel safer, warmer.
Kinda bummed and getting a feeling they’re judging me from my outer appearance. Please let me know anything that might help, thanks 🙏
Who’s sleepy tomorrow?
Just been in the UK for a few months and I’ve noticed a lot of the locals connect over small talks. I attempted to do that with my local peers but it doesn’t seem to work when it comes to me.
Is it cuz of my accent? My choice of topics? Or my try-hard attitude hahahahah.
Or like do British people just have a network of telepathies and sync up much easier with other locals. How does one assimilate oneself with the locals? Hahahaha
I already feel sick at work tomorrow x
Curious.

All ingredients as usual.
Thank you all. I will be back next Sunday! With the same Victorian tin bath tray.
looking round houses, surprised to see that quite a few old houses actually had Bdiets as well as toilets.
clearly in the 1970s people became a bit more aware that washing your ass is better than using toilet paper. But then they just seem to die out why?
I guess people didn’t have room in their toilets? these days is very easy to get toilets with built-in bidets. yet they’re not very common.
with the growing Muslim population will bidets becomes more popular again? most of Asia (china, Korea, Japan) have these kinds of toilets, why don’t we?
I did read the National Security Strategy document where it's like we can't rely on Europe everyone will become black yadda yadda, but this is just the propaganda for the masses.
What is the value proposition here for them to diminish European power?
When the foreign policy document came out there was a lot of talking about 'new world order' where regions of influence would be carved up.
I can almost certainly understand we would now fall under 'Russian ownership' in this redrawing - but they aren't looking so hot right now immolating their own economy.
They almost certainly value wealth above all, is it simply Putin telling American aristocrats he will directly cut them in on the shenanigans that have made him secretly one of the richest if not the richest person behind closed doors?
Or is the UK and Europe just another stepping stone to full deregulation as it's one of the few entities blocking their total dominance?
What is the real reason here?
interesting format this time, so instead of printing address they now write it down 🤔
EDIT: thank you for the help and advice, I appreciate it, it got me genuinely worried, thought I'd like to say I managed to write the declaration form online of not needing it (fake email and name ofc) so hoping they'll leave us alone a bit. But we shall see.
Apologies if this question offends anyone in any way, I don’t mean any disrespect. I was born and raised in an Asian country and moved to the UK around 9 years ago. Because of the line of work i’m in, I have seen lots of elderly people living alone or in care homes. I always wonder why don’t they move in with their sons/daughters? Wouldn’t that be a lot better for them to spend the last years of their lives with their children and grandchildren? Not saying this is wrong or anything but I just want to understand the logic or reasoning behind this.
Where I come from, parents tend to stay with their children till they die. Care homes do exist but they are occupied by people who have kind of fallen out with their children or dont have any children at all.
EDIT: Thank you to everyone who answered. I really learned a lot and received different perspectives. And to clarify, i do not think this is a bad/negative thing. In fact, it does sound a lot better in some regards. Also, I do realise that the Asian way of this situation is not all amazing and blissful and perfect. We have assholes who become the ‘elderly’ too.
I would also like to add that I do understand this is a difference of culture and I am completely open to it I just wanted to know different people’s opinions.
I've been dealing with a productive cough, a runny nose, and a lot of fatigue for about a week. It came on really suddenly: one night I just had a slightly scratchy throat, and by the next day I had a high fever, severe congestion, and a brutal cough. I've missed almost five days of work, spending three of them pretty much stuck in bed, and I still can't seem to shake it. My COVID test was negative.
Severam people I know have come down with the exact same thing.
Has anyone else had this flu? How long did it take you to fully recover?
It is my understanding that analogue free-to-air TV in the UK was broadcast until 2012, when analogue was finally decommissioned.
How did you watch TV from the time it became commercially viable for households wanting a television set, and what did you do if you couldn't afford set-top boxes like Sky?
How many free-to-air channels did you get at best in the early days?
