Stay or accept job offer?
Hi, 25F here, and I recently received a job offer. For context, my current role is my first full-time job out of college (had freelance part-time roles prior). I only started applying to jobs again this year after a recent layoff in my current company that really drained me out and also to experience interviewing in corporate jobs.
If you were in my position, would you accept the job offer?
Current Role:
3 years in a mid-management role for a US-based company (independent contractor)
- Fully remote
- Flexible time but with time tracker
- Basic salary is around ₱56k and ₱63k + 10% Monthly Performance Bonus (almost always guaranteed)
- Total: around ₱61k and ₱68k per month
- Performance-based annual raise on hourly pay (doesn't exceed $0.20)
- 5 VL annually + PTO for Christmas and New Year
- No other benefits (I pay my own govt contributions + taxes); no paid holidays
- Challenges: I manage a team so it can be stressful at times. Company had multiple layoffs and team structure changes (with pay cuts) in the past 3 years, most recently this Q1, and I have to deliver the news to the team every time since we have no HR. Right now, I'd say it's stable, and my workload is not as heavy as before anymore, but I'm feeling stagnant in terms of growth and I guess still burnt out from the stress of the recent layoffs.
New Role:
Individual contributor for an established company
- Hybrid but only 1 day WFH
- Dayshift
- Basic salary is ₱67K + ₱8K allowance
- Total: ₱75k per month (still trying to negotiate)
- 13th-month pay
- Performance-based annual raise
- 15 VL + 15 SL (convertible to cash) + paid PH holiday
- With HMO + 1 dependent
- Challenges: Have to commute (pretty accessible but will take around 2 hours one-way) or rent a place near the office. It's e-comm, so I'm expecting it to be very fast-paced. This would also be my first time working in an office if ever since I've been working from home since college. Also traumatized from layoffs, so I'm a bit scared to take the jump to another company.
I'm torn if I should stay at my current company because it's comfortable, mostly because of the WFH setup and the repetitive day-to-day tasks that are almost autopilot to me, or if I should negotiate and take the offer for the new role and get out of my comfort zone and pursue growth. 🥲 I'm also my family's breadwinner so I want to make the right decision.
