Shoutout to the owner of Latte & Co on 5th Main and 6th.

My wife and I walked in, placed our orders and I tapped my international card and it declined cuz the machine wouldn’t accept it. The lady (owner) was right there, saw what happened and instantly asked us to sit down, have it and pay the next time we stopped by. I was moved.

Right after, I withdrew cash from the ATM nearby and paid in cash.

While we were sipping on our drinks, I overheard her asking the two employees where they’d want to have lunch on Friday and that she wants to take them out. The man taking orders was visibly shy and one could tell he didn’t know how to process it. But damn, I’ve never seen an owner talk to employees as equals in India. Admittedly, I moved out of the country back in 2014, but such a pleasant surprise to see things changing for the better!

Also, the drinks were TERRIFIC!

NRI investment in Bangalore - strategy?

I’m 34 and in tech, with a wife (also works) and kid. Off late, owing to uncertain visa issues, I’ve been thinking of buying a flat with an A-grade builder with a 2030 possession timeline. For some context, I already bought out a 2000 sqft plot in a gated project about 25 minutes from the airport (north bangalore) back in 2023 and it has already appreciated. However, it makes sense to construct a villa here only like 10 years from now, when things around will pick up (having said that, I already see things like Foxconn, Prestige tech park etc picking up, but I mean for it to trulllyy pick up). So I’m looking at this only when I’m like 50 or something.

Now, I’d like to secure a roof for us to live in, until then. I’ve been on the lookout for apartments like I said, but the rates are mental within city limits and I’m hesitant to move away from it because that brings the equation back to the same as that of the plot (infra developments). I’d love to hear what people have to say to this. I’m slowly considering resale apartments but I’m still hesitant. Not liking the idea of putting my money on a used unit.

Edit - since most of you asking for my budget, I’m okay with 2.75 Cr, with most of it being paid during possession, which I’d ideally want to be around 2030.
