Sylvester McCoy IS the 17th Doctor

I mean, he's too old to be the 7th and was out in the real world so not the one from the Memory TARDIS, so it's the only thing that makes sense...

Big Finish, over to you!

If MOT makes roughly the same as Superman is Gunn cooked?

Spider-Man looks like it will beat Superman's total in its first week and will easily sail well past a billion.

Avengers could be a surprise disaster but it's far more likely to at least inch into a billion.

So if MOT ends up in that same 600-ish range again, where does that leave Gunn?

The only character he has that could do better is the one he's handed over to the guy who made The Flash.

Warners aren't paying him huge sums of money to make films that make a small profit for them.

Is Gunn still the right person to fix DC's Box Office problems?

Let's look at the details:

Superman: Just barely makes a profit.

Supergirl: Total disaster

Next up:

Clayface: Not a Batman film but a film about an obscure Batman villain

Superman 2: Should do OK but with the novelty factor gone and international interest unchanged not likely to improve.

And the only confirmed film after that is once again not a Batman movie but a puppet movie about Robins.

And on the TV side, which is supposed to help bolster interest in the moves, we have a Green Lantern show made by people to embarrassed to call it Green Lantern and a Jimmy Olsen/Gorilla Grood show.

"The Rest is Entertainment" covered the story today.

Starts about 26 minutes in. Mr Osgood explains everything very well. Should be mandatory viewing before anyone comments on the subject.

One key fact that gets revealed it was always going out to tender after the Christmas Special anyway and the feeling was any incoming Producer would want a clean slate so it was better to cut it off there rather than dragging out.

My Big Takeaway From Today

The BBC would rather take the PR damage from cancelling the Christmas Special than allow Davies one more episode to wrap things up.

We all thought they were actually happy with what he's doing but turns out they felt the same as the rest of us.

The press release is the most telling of all. When Chibnall's departure was announced it was full of praise for him, this one... nothing.

My one wish now is that when the tender for making the new series goes out no one who has been involved in the series in the last 10 years is allowed to bid. That goes double for McTighe.
