Need stay + transport suggestions for Mangalore/Udupi trip

Hi everyone,
I’m travelling to Mangalore from 22nd May to 24th May with plans to explore Mangalore + Udupi. I’m trying to decide the best area to stay and had a few questions for locals/travellers.
I found a few Airbnb options around Haleyangadi / Sasihithlu beach side. It looks peaceful and close to the beach, but I’m not sure if it is practical from a transport point of view.
Main questions:
- Where should we stay?
Mangalore city
Surathkal / Mulki side
Haleyangadi / Sasihithlu beach side
Udupi
Which area makes the most sense if we want to cover both Mangalore and Udupi in 2 nights?
- Is Haleyangadi / Sasihithlu a good stay option?
The Airbnb looks nice, but will it be difficult to get autos/cabs from there, especially at night or early morning?
- Cab/auto situation:
Are Ola/Uber/Namma Yatri/Rapido reliable in Mangalore and nearby beach areas?
Or do we need to depend on local autos/cabs?
- Bike/scooter rentals:
Are rental scooters/bikes easily available in Mangalore?
Any trusted rental shops/apps?
Would it be safe/practical to use a scooter for Mangalore–Udupi or nearby beaches, considering the weather?
- Udupi day trip:
Is it better to do Udupi as a day trip from Mangalore, or should we stay one night in Udupi?
- Suggested stay areas:
Please suggest good areas to stay for easy food, transport, safety, and sightseeing access. We are okay with either city stay or peaceful beach stay, but don’t want to get stuck without transport.
Current rough plan:
22nd: Reach Mangalore, local places/beach
23rd: Udupi/Malpe/Kapu side
24th: Short local visit and return
