There have been a lot of new restaurants, brands, and viral food concepts popping up across Mangalore. Everyone seems to be chasing the next big launch, trying to become the next “viral” brand.

But at the same time, we’re also seeing many restaurants shut down after suffering huge losses.

Is the industry changing? Are customers becoming more experimental, or is the market simply becoming overcrowded? Is chasing trends and virality enough to sustain a food business in the long run?

What do you guys think — where is Mangalore’s food industry headed?

Bike is out of stock so it takes time apparently
Even though I told i ll pay once I inspect the bike
They told they give to people who pay the whole amount first
They prioritise that way

I want to share something I witnessed yesterday (17 August) on an SNDP Express bus (Departs at 10:00 PM from State Bank.) travelling from Mangaluru towards Shivamogga via Mulki, Karkala and Hebri.

Two passengers, one is appeared to be from North Karnataka and one from kerala, boarded at Lalbagh. They were apparently travelling towards Surathkal/NITK, although I'm not completely sure about their destination.

There was a disagreement over the ticket fare. As far as I know, the fare for that section is around ₹64, but I don't know exactly how much the conductor charged them. One of the passengers questioned why they were being charged more. The argument became heated, and the conductor told them to get off the bus.

The passenger seemed hesitant because it could have been the last bus for them. At that point, the situation became physical. The conductor allegedly started hitting/forcing the passenger out.

What shocked me more was what happened next. Another passenger who had nothing to do with the original argument suddenly started attacking the passenger. He slapped and kicked him. Then another 3-4 people joined instead of trying to stop the fight.

Eventually, near/after Baikampady, two of the passengers were pushed out of the bus. I couldn't clearly see but seeing the reaction they fell badly, but the bus then continued.

The conductor had a long beard and a tattoo on his neck. The bus may have CCTV, so hopefully the footage can clarify exactly what happened.

I've also personally noticed that some conductors seem to treat local passengers differently from poorer/migrant passengers who don't speak Tulu, including asking for more money than the ticket fare. I'm not claiming I know for certain that this incident was because of regional or language prejudice, but given what I witnessed, I can't completely rule it out either.

What bothers me most is that this started as what seemed to be a fare dispute, possibly over a relatively small amount, and somehow turned into several people beating passengers and throwing them out of a bus.

Has anyone else experienced overcharging or different treatment on SNDP/private buses, particularly if you don't speak Tulu? And does anyone know how to formally report something like this to the RTO or police anonymously ?

I am planning to visit Kukke Shri Subramanya Swamy Temple on 29th August. I checked online, but Sarpa Samskara tickets were not available. However, Ashlesha Puja tickets were available, so I have booked one.

Is there any possibility of getting a Sarpa Samskara ticket offline at the temple? The issue is that we have been advised to visit the temple, and we have a very small window to do so as our travel plans depend on my doctor appointments.

Any suggestions or information would be really helpful.
I will be reaching Sakleshpur around 11 PM on 28th August. Would you suggest staying in Sakleshpur for the night and travelling to Kukke the next morning, or would it be better to stay near the temple? Is travelling from Sakleshpur to Kukke at that time advisable?

Across Tulunadu, Naga Aradhane is synonymous with sacred groves (Nagabana), milk offerings, and deep respect for the soil. But as rituals become increasingly commercialized with complex homas, Ashlesha Bali, and elaborate temple setups, it is worth stepping back to examine what Naga worship originally meant in indigenous Tuluva culture and why our traditional practices deserve to be reclaimed. Long before external scriptural influences entered the coastal belt, early Tuluvas practiced direct nature and spirit worship (Dhaivaradhane and Nagaradhane).

The original Nagabana was not meant to be a concrete temple or a place for fire(Homa) . It was a living micro-forest an untouched piece of land reserved for the soil’s guardian spirit. While temple based Vedic rituals have their place in large public shrines, applying them to private, ancestral Kutumba Nagabanas risks erasing the distinct identity of Tuluva spirit traditions. Does your family still perform traditional, elder-led Naga Tambila at your ancestral Moolasthana or Guttu Mane, or have things shifted toward temple-style rituals? Are you OK with this synthesis in rituals continuing?
