Interesting Fact: if the California of 1990 still existed today and was a country it would have the second highest birth rate in all of the Americas

California (1990): 2.47 births per woman

Top 2 countries by fertility rate in the Americas in 2026:
1-Haiti : 2.55 births per woman
2-Guyana: 2.35 births per woman

Just in case someone doesn’t know:
California (2026): 1.43 births per woman

According to recent estimates Russia’s TFR should be 1.28 in 2026 down from 1.37 in 2025 not the exaggerated claim of 0.9 to 1 made by another user a few hours ago. Regardless still a huge decline and a dangerously low birth rate

Fun Fact: Just 10 years ago in 2016, there were no countries on earth with a tfr below 1, the lowest was Macau at 1.14 back then. Which means you just needed to have the tfr of Italy in 2026 (1.14) back in 2016 in order to have the lowest birth rate on earth

San Marino needs to be added to the birth gauge monthly update now since it dropped to 0.66 in 2026 down from 0.91 in 2025 so we can monitor how close they are to extinction

San Marino’s TFR just officially declined to 0.66 in 2026. This would make it the country with the third lowest birth rate in the world and the first country to be at risk of extinction within our lifetime (read text below)

San Marino’s tfr declined to 0.66 as of June 2026 down from 0.91 in 2025. It’s now the lowest birth rate in Europe for the 3rd year in a row behind Malta at 0.98 which was the previous lowest country. The county recorded just 66 births in January-June 2026 compared to 82 last year in the same period in a country of 34,000 people. They recorded an average of 13 births a month. This means 2 or even 3 days could pass in San Marino without a single baby being born.

The country ’s tfr has seen the most rapid decline out of any country in human history (excluding wars and special events), the tfr was cut in half in just 5 YEARS. It was at 1.2 which is double the current birth rate back in 2021

WHY THE COUNTRY IS NOW SERIOUSLY AT A RISK OF EXTINCTION IN THIS CENTURY:

the other countries with a birth rate below 1 (eg. Taiwan, China, Korea, Thailand) have tens of millions people so it will take centuries for these countries to drop below the extinction threshold.

However San Marino has ONLY 34,000 people out of which 28,000 are from San Marino.
This means that within just 80 years, they would decline below the extinction threshold. Their numbers would get so low that the few people left would have to marry italians or other Europeans.

There is two possible scenarios if the tfr stays the same, both bad.
1: immigration.

With such a low population and low tfr, immigration here would mean literally completely replacing the people of the country. At this rate the native population is heading to 5,000 by the end of the century. If They still try to maintain a 34,000 population. This would mean that by the end of the century 90% of the people would not be from San Marino up from 20% now. The country would just become a mix of random Europeans and other immigrants. And like I said, that means that a lot of of them would just marry other Europeans and their children would probably also marry other Europeans until all of the descendants turned into those nationalities and there is literally no one left from San Marino.

2: no immigration.

No immigration the country would have an extremely bad collapse. At this rate, it would be full of abandoned home streets businesses within very few decades. The economy would definitely collapse and will become extremely dependent on tourism. And the whole country would just look post apocalyptic.

And this would mean the few people left from San Marino by then would immigrate to other countries which would mean marrying people from other countries and obviously their children wouldn’t randomly find a person from San Marino so so they’re extinct too as a people.

and the country doesn’t even have demographic momentum to prevent this they have already had a low birth rate for years and the biggest demographic is 50 year olds

If somehow all of this doesn’t happen. Then within just 150 years with the same tfr they would be at a serious risk of inbreeding as only a few families would be left.

Again reminder for how serious this is:

With one of the smallest populations and lowest births rates. This is all MATHEMATICALLY PROVEN POSSIBLE TO HAPPEN WITHIN OUR LIFETIME.

And again to the people that lack basic math in this sub:

This wouldn’t happen in east asia because they have tens/hundreds of millions of people.

Even malta and Macau with 500K and 700K and a tfr of 0.98 and 0.46 respectfully are still able to have tens of thousands of natives left within the end of our lifetime.

But 28,000 and 0.66 is literally just extinction within some decades. It’s crazy no one is talking about this

America now has a birth rate closer to that of Afghanistan than Taiwan. Taiwan is genuinely so insanely cooked

Afghanistan: 4.4 births per woman
America: 1.55 births per woman
Taiwan: 0.5 births per woman

This means Afghanistan is 2.83 times more fertile than America

While America is 3.1 times more fertile than Taiwan

India, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia are the only 3 countries in the top 20 largest economies with a good birth rate

I am really curious what is your opinion on these birth rate facts

1-France in 2014 (just 12 years ago) had a higher birth rate than India in 2026

France (2014): 1.97 births per woman
India (2026): 1.93 births per woman

2-Ireland’s fertility rate in 1983 is higher than Syria today

Ireland (1983): 2.75 births per woman
Syria (2025): 2.66 births per woman

3-The UK’s fertility rate in 2012 is similar to Venezuela today:

UK (2012): 1.92 births per woman
Venezuela (2026): 2.03 births per woman

4-America’s fertility rate in 2007 is MUCH more closer to that of Libya and Egypt today than most western countries today:

America (2007): 2.12 births per woman
Egypt (2026): 2.52 births per woman
Libya (2025): 2.25 births per woman
Europe-Canada-Australia-New Zealand average (2026): Around 1.35

5-China had a higher birth rate in 2017 than Ecuador in 2026:

China (2017): 1.80 births per woman
Ecuador (2026): 1.74 births per woman

The fact that having 4 children in 1972 would still put you below the world average is crazy. It’s fascinating how much the world changed in just 54 years

Can anyone explain to me WTF is happening in Macau

Macau has literally the lowest fertility rate out of any place on earth now at 0.47. My mind genuinely can’t comprehend this fertility rate. How tf did they reach it ???? How bad is the life of a human being in Macau for them to have a fertility rate of 0.47. For comparison America is 3 times more fertile at 1.55. This means that America to Macau is what Afghanistan’s fertility rate is to America

and don’t tell me the usual east asian reasons of the work culture etc. because Korea and China also have all of these problems and have DOUBLE the fertility rate of Macau at 0.9. Also it can’t be about the fact that it’s a city state. Because Singapore is a city state and has a fertility rate of 0.87 which is also almost double the fertility rate of Macau.

0.47 is genuinely a crazy number. How can a society not literally Collapse instantly with a fertility rate of 0.47 ???

Before you write any of the normal reasons please remember that those reasons apply to countries with DOUBLE and TRIPLE the fertility rate of Macau so it can’t be just that.

How soulless and dystopian is life in Macau to get to get a fertility rate of 0.47 ???

bUt bRo tHe wEst’s fertility rate cOllaPsEd sInCe the 70s. tHiS iS nOtHiNG nEw bEcAuSe uRbAnIzAti…. Stfu

People always talk about how fertility rate in the west already started collapsing in the early 70s but comparing that to today’s fertility rate collapse is a joke.

Let’s look at the year 1974:
First of all not a single country in the entire world had a fertility rate below 1.5 in 1974. The lowest was Germany at 1.51 basically close to the US today

And only 3 countries had a fertility rate below 1.7 and these were luxembourg, Finland and Germany
meaning "the collapse" was just a normal transition from 3 children per woman to 2 or very very close to 2 in western countries which is totally normal.

Furthermore the fertility rate in the west stabilized right after having that fertility rate decline. In the US for example the fertility rate reached a low of 1.76 in 1976 (which is totally good enough and would even be more fertile than countries like the Philippines today) and then literally never touched that low until 2018, the fertility rate even rose and reaches 2 in the 90s and 2000s.

Even going into the 90s. Not a single country in the entire world had a fertility rate below 1.3 in 1991. The entire concept of ultra low fertility started in 1992 as Italy was the first country to go below 1.3 followed by Spain and Germany next year

Also side note: stop treating all sub replacement fertility rate like the same. 1.8, 1.5, and below 1.3 are completely different societies. One is double the other. 1.8 and 1.7 to me is still a healthy society and that’s the fertility rate most of the west and other modern countries where at or reached through out contemporary history. My country is at 1.54 now. I still remember how it was when it was at 1.85 in 2022, the vibe was so much happier

Anyways always keep in mind that these declines are unprecedented. I genuinely don’t understand these people who say urbanization like sheep. Bro I swear I would see a post on this sub showing how Turkey went from 2 in 2018 to 1.34 in 2026 and some npc will say urbanization and contraception and then I go and see the urbanization and contraception statistics and it literally increased 1% from 88% urban to 89% urban and the fertility rate declined by 33% in 8 years ( couldn’t more clearly be the spread of social media and tiktok since its stable then it dips like the graph is sky diving after 2018 yet some of yall are still coping)

So here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_countries\_by\_total\_fertility\_rate

The world bank usually updates each year the fertility rates for every country for 2 years prior so in 2025 they released the 2023 list and usually they are on point or just a bit higher than the real numbers. But this year it’s crazy they just released the 2024 list and it’s just completely wrong. They still have Iran on 1.68 and only basically The European countries are accurately updated. They still morocco on 2.21 too. It is really wrong. Why don’t they release the real numbers ?? They are supposed to be the official data not birth gauge.

Just a reminder that most third world countries with below replacement fertility rates had fertility rates of 2 kids per woman back in literally just 2020. It’s clear that this rapid decline is caused by short form content and online dating and in general the dysfunctional culture of the 2020s reaching to them.

With The way the for you page works. Degenerate Things that were taboo (in a good way) in these countries became not taboo overnight. Because when people scroll and see a video of that thing it’s different to when you choose a youtube video where if you saw that title you wouldn’t click. Therefore the society turns degenerate overnight.

For comparison The USA took 13 years to go from 2 to 1.6 births per woman but many second/third world countries went from 2 to 1.6 in just 3 years
