How the balance between the Dark and "Light" Sides Should Work
Hi everyone, first of all, I'm starting from the premise that the "light" side represents balance and the dark side represents imbalance, but that's not what I want to discuss. It's about what leads to this. I'll explain better; I even made a post about this a long time ago, but I wanted to validate my idea here.
But to contextualize, I've always had this thought, even when addressing it in RPG games. Before, I thought it was possible for the dark and light sides to be in balance, and after researching this in various sources, I discovered that I was completely wrong in considering these concepts so superficially.
I believed this mainly based on the children of Mortis, in the representation of the dark side, the "light" side, and the balance between them, but I recently saw a comment that said they weren't the representation of the dark and light sides, but rather of the emotions that lead to those respective sides, with the daughter representing calmness, altruism, and compassion, and the son representing hatred, selfishness, and passion.
When I read that, I tried to reapply this logic to the Jedi, Sith, and how they use the Force, and for me, it became perfectly viable for a character to exist who doesn't balance the sides, but balances what leads to them. Conceptually, the emotions that lead to the dark side of the Force are not "bad"; the dark side is the personification of the unnatural, like a cancer, but feeling hatred, passion, and selfishness are perfectly natural feelings, and what leads to the dark side is the lack of control over these emotions.
The same logic could be applied to using powers considered to be on the dark side, such as Force lightning; if balanced, it shouldn't be considered on the dark side. Of course, using such power can unbalance a person and cause them to fall to the dark side by channeling hatred into unnatural lightning bolts that emanate from their hand.
But an example of what a perfect Force user would be, not ironically, is Anakin WBW. Being able to shift from a look of pure hatred and rage to a state of meditation and calm, finally giving a smile like someone perfectly balanced.
In my opinion, this type of character should be more widespread in the lore, because a Jedi is the personification of discipline, and it seems, for example, they only reject using powers considered "Sith" and having relationships, to ensure a lower incidence in the mass of Jedi fall in the dark side. But for those who train their whole lives and become masters or grandmasters, balancing the emotions of the dark and "light" sides emotions shouldn't be a big deal.
