Me and two other people are planning a 5 hour trip with car (it will probably take longer than 5 hours though due to stops). We are all adults in our early 20s. One of the passengers is my friend, and a friend of my friend will be the one driving (it's his car). I have never met him and I don't know what kind of driver he is. I just know he's had his licence for a year now. I would like to trust my friends judgement on him, but my friend doesn't have his driving license, to know exactly how good of a driver he is.
I was actually really chill about this, but when I mentioned the upcoming trip to my parents, they told me that it is not safe to get into a car for a 5 hour trip on the highway where people drive in high speed, with a fairly new driver I don't know personally.
I don't know if that's overreacting from my parents side. I would appreciate some more insight on this, from other drivers that are more experienced than me. (I should also mention that I'm from Europe and not the US, although reckless drivers can exist anywhere)
