onn 24" 180Hz monitor won't wake from sleep over DisplayPort – black screen, tried everything
Hey everyone, I've been dealing with a really frustrating monitor issue for a while now and I'm running out of ideas. I was experiencing this on my 165hz, so I bought the 180HZ monitor, but the same issue is occurring. So maybe it's my setup, not the actual hardware. I also experience this similar issue with my Laptop too.
I know the monitors are Walmart, but I like them so far.
**My Setup:**
- Desktop PC
- Monitor 1: onn 24" 180Hz — connected to desktop via DisplayPort
- Monitor 2: onn 24" 165Hz — connected to desktop via DisplayPort
- HP Laptop via USB-C Dock → Monitor 1 via HDMI
- GPU: [your GPU here]
- Driver version: 596.49 (just did a clean install via NV Clean Install + DDU)
**The Problem:**
Whenever my PC idles and the displays go to sleep, Monitor 2 wakes up perfectly every time. Monitor 1 either comes back as a dim black screen with no signal, or glitches and flickers trying to recover. The only fix is to physically power cycle Monitor 1. This has been happening consistently.
**Key detail:** I tested with the laptop completely on its own screen — not extending to Monitor 1 at all — and the issue still happens. So it's not an input switching problem.
**What I've Already Tried:**
- Disabled Auto Input / Auto Source in monitor OSD
- Disabled FreeSync in monitor OSD
- Disabled Overdrive in monitor OSD
- GPU Power Management set to Prefer Maximum Performance
- Disabled Windows Fast Startup
- Swapped to a brand new onn 24" 180Hz monitor — same issue, ruling out a defective unit
- Clean Nvidia driver reinstall using DDU + NV Clean Install (596.49)
Has anyone dealt with this issue? What finally fixed it?
