Frontier disruption assistance seems fraudulant

Consumers should not be charged for a service that becomes impossible to use because the airline cancels the underlying flight. Is it unreasonable?

I am not the first, saw a few posts a while ago. I got caught getting all my flights cancelled over thanksgiving. Flights got reimbursed but the insurance is non refundable. They didn't give other replacement options , as they were more expansive ? I am ok with that, but the insurance practice is troubling.

Frontier/HTS Disruption Assistance only applies within 24 hours of departure, yet the fee remains non-refundable if Frontier cancels weeks/months earlier. This structure creates a troubling incentive: fees can be collected on flights that are later canceled before the service ever. The federal consumer-protection authorities should investigate whether this practice is unfair. But not sure how that works.

Frontier suffers no apparent financial harm when it cancels the flight itself, making it difficult to justify retaining a non-refundable protection fee for a service the consumer was never able to use.
