first frontier experience and it was hell

flight was delayed going to atl for over an hour because of a logbook and maintenance….never heard of that but ok. then we couldn’t get off the plane for another hour after landing because a plane was at our gate (no shit). leaving atl going back to lga, the weather was bad so there were delays all around of course. we were delayed 4 hours and had 5 gate changes. literally went from c7 to e42 back to c5 at one point which had everybody pissed. (a friend of mine who had a delta flight around the same time as me was delayed for about 30 and then took off for perspective) we finally boarded the plane and sat for 15 just to be told to get off because the flight was cancelled LOLLLLLL. now they’re saying no more flights, and if you wanted to change to ewr they can get you there on wednesday. it’s sunday night?¿ first and last time flying frontier i fear !

GoWild Explanation for Dummies

Can someone please explain to me the GoWild pass to me? I’ve done a little research but apparently it’s more intense than I thought. My husband and I just moved to CO from OH and we were considering getting the pass to go visit family on holidays and stuff. I’m mostly interested in how pricing works and if anyone thinks we’ll have luck floating out of denver to Columbus, Cincinnati, or Dayton. Thanks!

8 new Frontier routes starting July 5th and 6th

Red lines are daily flights, blue are either 3x or 4x per week.

First paragraph of press release:

>DENVER – July 5, 2026 – Frontier Airlines (Nasdaq: ULCC) is launching eight new routes previously operated by Spirit Airlines this week. The routes, spanning the U.S. and including major metropolitan areas including Boston, Detroit, Dallas, Las Vegas and more, begin operating today and tomorrow and will ensure consumers maintain access to affordable travel options.

Press release with a route-by-route text descriptions and introductory fare sale prices here: https://news.flyfrontier.com/frontier-beginning-service-this-week-on-eight-routes-previously-operated-by-spirit-airlines/

Comments:

  • Nice to see some additional deployment of planes and crews well before the service cuts happening in August take effect. (see a post from about10 days ago)
  • Seeing these come out at this time gives me optimism for other new domestic routes as the holiday schedules are released in the next month or two
  • Spirit route backfill and a bias toward building up relatively frequent routes serving major airports are two network strategies the CEO talked about in the last earnings call. Both strategies appear to be well-represented in this group of new routes.

Frontier app mobile experience is genuinely horrible

  • They apparently only allow check in through the mobile app. Unfortunately the mobile app itself is so glitchy. I don’t know why they created this limitation when the app has lots of bugs. why force users through one path? And that one path itself doesn’t have all the bugs fixed? I did read that there is some work around through the web app (May or may not exist), but why are you making this so difficult?
  • when I bought a ticket for my wife and I and when it came to check in time (about 2 weeks ago), whenever I tried putting her KTN number (for tsa pre) and frontier miles number I always encountered errors that would not allow me to get past this section for check in. I just decided to not put this Information for my wife after multiple tries and was able to get through
  • Even when I want to go to the “profile” section of the app I sometimes get this screen that happens to load forever. If I somehow get past that and want to go to the “account info” screen, I also get this forever loading screen.

It doesn’t seem like they do thorough testing before deploying new versions of app? Are they not thoroughly testing through all possible workflows before they deploy a new version?

This might be one of the worst apps I have used that has been published by a big company. I always get worried when using an app like this, and that’s an odd feeling to have in 2026.

Never, ever, EVER fly Frontier

I had a HELLish travel trip this weekend by flying Frontier…

For context, I was supposed to attend a World Cup match on Saturday, July 4, and I desperately needed to be on time because those tickets are NOT cheap. I had also booked a hotel for two nights, July 3 & 4, because I was supposed to fly in Friday night, according to my itinerary.

I booked a $500 flight with Frontier (round trip), and paid an additional $120 for a carry on. I was from flying from STL to HOU, and had a layover in ATL. My flight was supposed to depart at 5 PM, and my connecting flight was an hour and a half later.

Problem 1: We departed 1.5 hours late from STL. I thought I would miss my connecting flight, but I talked to the flight attendant, and he said the same aircraft was going to be used to go to HOU. Whew, crisis averted! (Not)

Problem 2: We landed in ATL at 9:20 PM, and they began boarding for the HOU flight at 9:50. Everyone boarded the plane, and we were all good to go, until the pilots announced they could no longer take off because they had exceeded their federal flying mandate. Everyone was forced to deplane.

Problem 3: Frontier had no replacement pilots, and my flight was cancelled. The next flight out was at 6 AM. Mind you, at this point, I just lost out on one night of my hotel reservation. Well, as it turns out, their 6 AM flight was sold out. So, the next flight they could get me on was something in the PM, well past my World Cup match time.

Problem 4: So, I TRIED asking them for a refund. Apparently, they don’t do refunds at the gate, and I had to call customer service. They said that they could only give me a partial refund, because apparently, the plane had boarded and I was marked as a no-show. I tried explaining that there was NO way I could be marked as a no-show for a flight that didn’t even leave the airport, but to no avail.

Problem 5: I had to book a 6 AM $500 Southwest flight (one-way) because Frontier failed to do anything. Side note: they also don’t price match, so I was out an extra $250. I spent the entire night at the ATL airport (I’m a STL native), and finally made it to HOU, and checked in to my hotel at 8 AM. (The game was SO GOOD!)

Problem 6: After the match, I tried checking in to my return flight with Frontier, which was supposed to depart tomorrow. Their app wouldn’t let me check in because apparently my flight was cancelled???? So, I called customer service AGAIN (this is like the fourth time at this point), and thankfully, she was able to fully refund my return flight, and said I would receive an email confirmation within the next 15 minutes.

Problem 7: Turns out, I never received the email confirmation, so I called them AGAIN to make sure. And then I booked another Southwest flight to get me out of this Frontier hellhole.

TLDR; (1) don’t ever book with Frontier and (2) I would advise against late flights because of the federal mandate. Thanks for letting me vent! It has been a STRESSFUL travel weekend.

Is Frontier Airlines worth the risk?

I need to go from Chicago (ORD airport) to San Francisco (SFO airport), and the only options I see are Frontier, AA, and Delta.

Since AA and Delta is roughly the same price, I excluded Delta because they didn't include carry-on. So, it's either Frontier or AA.

Frontier's budget pricing is very enticing, but from the reviews I've heard IRL, they said that they tend to be late often, and even up to 6 hours of delay.

So, I wanna ask what about you guys' experience with Frontier. Is it worth the $100 difference or not?

How likely is it that flight will be DELAYED? Atl to BOS

Thinking of booking a 5am flight next week from ATL to BOS. How likely is it that the flight will actually not be delayed?

Credit card

Took a flight and got the credit card spiel - but what’s the catch?

6 free flights? 2 checked bags free? No black out dates? No minimum spending? $99 yearly fee? Can cancel at anytime without penalty?

What’s the catch here because this seems to good to be true!

I know the interest rate is 19-30% depending on credit history, but if you just use the card responsibly I don’t see any issue with this

Why does frontier hide the terminal/gate when other sites like airport website, flight aware has it? Some depart and it still says TBA….

One even said tba for gate but in small print on the app it said “a”. So I went to a. Now flightaware says D so had to take people mover there…

This is the absolute worst airline experience in my entire life.

From being charged 80 dollars for my backpack, to HEY! We let you know if you're not boarded 20 minutes before the departure time, you're shit out of luck (Dont worry, they rebooked us to a bullshit 6 hour layover 600 miles away from your destination) I had a half a mind to cancel the fuck out of vacation and spit on their shoes. Ridiculous. I figured we had time for a beer at the bar because we were 40 minutes early for our 1:05 departure. Walk on up to thw gate at fucking 12:45, sorry. you're too late. it wasnt on any of the emails we sent you, or our stupid dog shit app you need to download. but on your boarding pass you've had for all of 20 minutes. Sucks to be our customer, doesnt it

Fuck this company, and fucking never givi g them another cent.

Is the Frontier GoWild Pass worth it for my situation? (Jacksonville FL, flexible schedule, hiking trips)

I’ve been going back and forth on buying the Frontier GoWild Pass and wanted to hear from people who have actually used it.

Here’s my situation:

I live in Jacksonville, FL (JAX).
I work Tuesday and Wednesday every week, which means I have six consecutive days off between work weeks.
I don’t mind traveling light with just a backpack.

My main goal is to explore the western U.S. for hiking and national parks (Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming, etc.), and maybe occasionally visit Mexico, Costa Rica, or other international destinations.

I’d love to hear both the good and bad experiences!

I fucking hate Frontier

DFW>CLE. How fucking tough is it to have an open gate when we arrive? If the airline KNOWS a plane is arriving at 3:17 why on earth do we have to sit in the plane for 30 mins before we get to a gate?

Allegiant, Frontier or Breeze

I am currently a Captain at a regional and have to commute to work. My dream is to drive to work. I am in the Tampa area, these 3 airlines have a base in Tampa or PIE.
What is the best move? I could get MCO for while waiting for a spot to open in TPA, but my ultimate goal is TPA or PIE.

Stats:
3500 TT
300 PIC 121
1 failure: CFI
No degree

Personal item?

Taking a flight later today, will they take this as a personal item? It’s ab 1 inch taller and thicker than requirements, Tomtoc 40L. Flying out of IAD. Might repack it so it can be flatter or something

What’s your experience with frontier checking personal bags ??

SJU

Flying SJU to BDL early Saturday. This is my first time in PR and this is my first experience with Frontier other than the inbound journey, which was pretty flawless. Anything noteworthy about Frontier, the check in process or anything else to take into consideration flying out of SJU?

Overweight luggage

I’m planning to fly from Phoenix to Cleveland on Friday and I need to add a checked bag. Unfortunately that checked bag is about 24lb over their 40 lb limit. Does anyone know what the extra fee would be for that checked bag?
