Devil May Cry 4

Just beat DMC4 for the first time after completing DMC3 a week ago.

I liked it, but I definitely wasn't as taken with 4. Nero as a character doesn't interest me as much as Dante or Virgil. The characters here feel a little more one-note. And the back half of the game is certainly a choice.

Some levels are good to ok, while others feel jarringly bland and boring to navigate. The more open design in some sections hurts the overall pace and the story does not always hold my attention. Generally, the execution of this game does not feel as tight as 3.

Still, the combat is fun (perhaps more technical) and there are some great boss battles. Music is still awesome. Dante is always fun and seeing him onscreen were my favorite moments. However, does anyone else think his voice direction in 4 doesn't sound as good compared to 3? Nero plays really well, and you can tell the game was designed with him primarily in mind. As his moves are built to counter the varied enemy types, while Dante feels a little more unfocused. Still, had a lot of fun switching styles and beating down enemies with new weapons.

I've seen some mixed reception for this game online. It often seems like it gets overshadowed by both 3 and 5. I'm curious about everyone's take on the game?

Devil May Cry 3

I just beat Devil May Cry 3 for the first time, and I get it. I get the hype.

I have no one else to share this with, but I had a blast playing this game. Cutscenes were so over the top and just a delight to watch. That last fight with Virgil, man, what a battle.

I did miss the kinda retro horror-ish vibes from DMC1 and that awesome castle. But I think in about every other way I preferred this game. Boss fights were peak.
