Planning to head to DisneySea in mid-December. The last time I went was 10 years ago and I’m honestly quite surprised by how much the system has changed.

It sounds like such a stressful experience now and I'm not fond of queuing and heading there super early. I also dislike the idea of checking my mobile frequently for DPAs. I had a headache trying to figure out the USJ system but at least I feel the Express Pass system there makes things more straightforward compared to DisneySea.

So I’m wondering.. is DisneySea still worth visiting when I only have one day in Tokyo? I will be flying in from Hokkaido and have one spare day before my flight home, so I could either spend the day at DisneySea or do other things around Tokyo like Christmas illuminations, shopping, sightseeing, etc.

My companion and I are split in the decision and would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I would love some recommendations for an upcoming trip.

We'll be travelling in early to mid-December as a family, including one elderly family member who has experienced winter in Switzerland before. We're from a tropical country so we would like to experience some winter scenery but we're currently undecided on the best route. For context, I've been to Japan twice before though that was 10 years ago.

Our current plan is to start in Osaka and end in Tokyo, as we want to visit USJ and DisneySea. That leaves us with about 10 days in between.

We're currently considering two options:

Option 1: Hokkaido

• Focus on Central Hokkaido (Sapporo, Otaru, Biei, Furano, etc.). We found some places we could still explore + return to some places we have visited 10 years ago.
• We're also considering adding Eastern Hokkaido (2 days or so) but we don't drive and hiring a private driver seems quite expensive.

Option 2: Tohoku / Hokuriku

• Places we're considering include Nagano, Toyama, Fukushima, Yamagata, Akita, and Aomori. We haven't visited any of these regions before and are thinking of covering perhaps 2-4 prefectures over the 10 days. We have yet to decide exactly which prefectures to visit.

Given the timing (early-mid December), our reliance on public transport and our preference for scenic landscapes (lakes, coastlines, mountains, etc.) and winter/snow experiences (not our first priority but will be nice to have I guess), would you recommend returning to Hokkaido or exploring Tohoku/Hokuriku instead?

These are just some broad options we're currently considering, and we hope to narrow them down based on your recommendations and experiences. We'd greatly appreciate any suggestions or insights. Thank you!

Edit: Saw in another post that even Aomori doesn't get much snow in December last year or so. So we are wondering if there's a chance for for a bit of snow experience/scenery in the Tohoku / Hokuriku regions.
