Context: The Selby rail crash also known as the (Great Heck rail crash) toke place on 28 February 2001 near the town of Great Heck in north Yorkshire. After a driver Gary Hart fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his car onto the tracks.

Soon after he crashed his car a GNER Intercity train crashed into the car causing it to derail into a passing freight train, killing 10 people.

Gary Hart was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and sentenced to five years in prison. He was released from prison in July 2004 after serving half of his sentence.
