Hello there. Sorry to be asking such an irrelevant question but maybe there's someone out there who might wanna take a crack at this one for me. So I'm watching this horror film *I Will Never Leave You Alone* where a man gets paroled after 6 years to exorcize a house. Through a series of flashbacks you find out he had a drinking problem, recreational drugs, and a shitty husband/father until she eventually microwaves the baby. Almost instantly he's on the phone with the police and while his back is turned, she goes outside, puts the car into neutral and runs over her own head. Super fucked up but im just trying figure out like why that's involuntary manslaughter and why he was considered "lucky" to get paroled after 6 years?

I know there's a more than likely chance it's just Hollywood being Hollywood but thought I'd ask to see if there's something I'm missing
