Never meet your heroes
I was having dinner at Oxford Services this evening, when I spotted a car outside I recognised. Was too far away to read the plate - could it be Edwin's?
A few minutes later, in walks Edwin! He's with his other half, I won't bother him. Hang on, they've temporarily separated - he's sat alone only two tables away from me, now's my chance!!
Shall I berate him for making my Alfa only the second best looking car in the car park? Shall I recount my favourite moments on the channel? Shall I thank him for the countless hours of enjoyment since choosing to crawl out from behind the camera all this years ago?
They say "Never meet your heroes", and they're spot on. Not because Edwin wasn't nice - he was very pleasant and friendly, despite being caught by surprise, but because I got so flustered, nervous and star struck that I (a 50 year old man) just fan-girled at him for a few brief seconds, then scurried back to my wife, who hasn't stopped laughing at me since.
So, never meet your heroes, unless you're prepared to lose any belief you still have that you're even remotely "cool". 😂
Still took a few pics of the TVR on the way back to my car. Be rude not to, wouldn't it? 😀
