Downsizing has anyone done it?

So I'm in a strange situation at the moment I have cancer and am receiving treatment for it. The outcomes are positive I should be ok at the end of it I hope. I am self employed and the business is suffering as I'm limited what I can do. We have a second business (landlord) thats unaffected.

We currently live in a pretty big property and the situation I am in has left me with a lot of free time to think about life after cancer and what I want from it. The idea of downsizing has come up. Current house is worth about 7-800k we can live very comfortably in a 500k property (North of UK) and have no mortgage. We could also clear the debt we have on our rental property and have an income of around 100k from the properties we have. Am I wrong or would that be a pretty sweet setup?

I'm under 50 so couldn't stop working just for my own MH so we would still have a normal working income.

Challenges

Where does all our stuff go? I think our current property is like 5000 square feet its huge. Quad garage full of stuff (would be going to a double) We would need a huge purge

Kids rooms would possibly be smaller

Current property has no neighbours and total privacy (I do not like chit chatting to neighbours and the keeping up with the Jone's type crap you get on estates) We would be hoping to move to a house not on an estate although the Mrs would like a brand new build!

Kids are anti moving as they love our current property which is to be fair pretty special (we would not be moving out of area)

It seems like a good idea but I'm interested to see if anyone has actually done it and regretted it or done it and had a good outcome?

It is just about possible to keep the property and rent it out but this would involve a small mortgage on the smaller property plus we dont do residential lettings much any more. Would need to establish demand for rental too as it would be a very unusual one for letting.

Reduction in stress is a big thing with all of this is so letting would remove the pressure of selling and being in a chain etc

A lot to think about!

Jason Arday and the left in absolute paralysis over it and something they forget...

Now firstly I have to say the chap taking his own life was not the ending I wanted to see very far from it. I thought he would have had a very long and lucrative career falling into the "Jay from inbetweeners with dreads" character but a Media storm is not something some can cope with and thats that.

Of course the left are in a tailspin over this affair as the ultra left Cambridge academics put him in the position. The ultra left Cambridge academics ignored Nathan Cofnas when he blew the whistle TWO YEARS ago. This is all the fault of the left it has absolutely nothing to do with centre right politics. They were so desperate to promote/DEI a Gentlemen of colour they were willing to ignore objective reality to do so. They have blood on their hands and they cannot process it.

However one thing that I feel has been lost in this whole debacle is that Jason Arday I mean he's the bad guy right? Again I stress that him taking his own life is terrible but I mean he lied and conned his way into a highly paid publicly funded job. Conned a book publisher into a huge advance. Copied peoples work. Lied about charity work/money Stood by while Nathan Cofnas got fired for telling the truth about his antics. He was a bad dude not an angel. If he was white he would have been absolutely destroyed in press and public opinion.

So this guy clearly had mental issues he was essentially a full scale Mitty and needed help not promotions but he did a lot of deceptive and bad stuff. But there are vigils and navel gazing as the left just simply can't get to grips with what their own policies and infrastructure have done. It must be very confusing being a leftie.

Hold on a minute - detention centres

When you think about it why is a detention centre not the only place that illegal migrants should be housed? How did we even get anywhere near to a point where these people are exposed to the public?

I'm sure a decade ago or more we had them I used to drive past one in Leeds quite regularly. Obviously we have made ourselves the numero uno destination for migrants and the system is screwed but no wonder we have problems.

These people should be locked up. They could be anyone (and often are) the Government surely has a duty to protect the public so why aren't all these people just held in secure detention? It would surely be cheaper to house them together rather than in expensive new build houses and hotels charging a fortune. As the left want to promote this maas uncontrolled migration we will need these facilities all the time now so I see they are trying to get some off the ground now. The Liberal and Labour areas they are proposed in of course are up in arms but hey guys you voted for this so it can't be an issue right?

This is a win win for the Government too. Out of sight out of mind. Crime will be zero against the local population. It could help to settle the whole situation down. There have been a couple of cases of failed asylum seekers comitting random murders just to be able to stay so it would be nice to have them easily available to deport.

I don't think having them here is enough for the left they seem to revel in our inability to put up with it. Racists we are apparently but then they object to having the camps in their constituency? The oldest of left wing traditions of course being hypocrisy (maybe just after antisemitism)

As with many things when you look at the state of the UK today how the heck did we sleepwalk onto this situation?

This might be a difficult one but...Do you think Farage should step down?

So No by election results....The country IS making a turn to the right the party has the messaging but do you think Nigel Farage is actually now holding Reform back?

He has brought attention to the party but seriously if you lent the guy a fiver you know you wouldn't see it back. Is Farage not the "ick" you have to swallow to elect Reform? Or are there general fans of Farage's that would perhaps vote for another party if he lead that?

I can't help thinking that with 3 years to go until the GE the Reform could stand a better chance of image building with a leader who is not Nigel Farage. We have one chance here I think if the next GE is lost we are done.

We didn't win the battle but

Make no mistake the course of the war is turning. Not at all covered in the MSM absolutely extraordinary scenes in the EU Parliament the other day as anti immigration laws are enthusiastically passed

https://youtu.be/QNkOkYAOuyM?si=s8ui9hpcG4CbNMLe

The home of left wing madness has turned Europe is waking up from its crazy self harming sleepwalk.

We have 3 more years of this crazy do nothing English hating Government. There unfortunately will be more atrocities more strength building behind Islam people are noticing. We are frogs in a pan and water is coming up to boiling point. We will be successful as there simply isn't an alternative.

Makerfield and the great Frank Wright got Restore on the map we must be to carry on the fight. We will get our continent back never mind just our country!

Election predictions

So we're all rooting for Rebecca and Restore. There's going to be a splash in tomorrow's news but how strong do you think Restores turnout will be?

I think 15% of the vote is possible. Burnham will win its a Labour safe seat. Perhaps there is something in the vote splitting argument but Restore were not a shoe in by any means.

Whatever happens the by election has been a huge opportunity for the party for spending awareness and it's a heck of an achievement to go from inception to pushing the narrative. Its given us the pure joy of Frank Wright and sets us up for greater successes in the future. Reform will cry bit they are Restore fat free with zero calories. We don't care!

Frank Wright

Well this is a very interesting chap that's come into public view by his support for Restore and the 40m view retweet by Elon Musk from his Makerfield interview. I had Hever heard of him before but after seeing the Musk video I've listened to a couple of podcast appearances he's done. Very interesting guy with a lot of common sense historically bolstered opinions. The Peter McKormack and Lotus Eaters pods are well worth a listen.

Politics about the policies and not the advancement of the politician just like Rupert Lowe. I'm sure Frank will play a role in the party directly in the future in some way but very refreshing and really focuses in on just how much we have lost in this country through Libralism.

I must confess I'd never heard of him before the Musk tweet!

What are you expecting of Reform?

Let's set immigration to one side for a moment that's a given but we have a bit of an opportunity for the country here with a true centre right party (not right wing thanks bot accounts!)

I would personally like to see happen straight away

Repeal of renters rights act in its entitiry

Re establishment of interest payment ofsetting for private Landlords

Re establishment of the 2 child benefit cap

Winding back of "woke" culture and associated legislation

Massive reform of the planning system to cut back red tape to almost zero

Net zero in the bin

Get the oil fields working again

Overhaul business rates to help get people trading again

Incentives to re establish the UK as a manufacturing base

Try and do something to stop Chinese cars coming into the country (a law making the Chinese take them back for recycling at the end of their 5 year service life for example)

Will Nigel have the cahoonas for real change or is he just full of BS and bluster? Barring any miraculous changes over the coming 3 years has a shoe in to be next PM but we do all have expectations of huge change the biggest changes to UK life since Thatcher.

What's on your wish list?
