Is there a pentimento in Feininger’s Zirchow VII, or am I seeing things?

Hi! I’m new to the subreddit so not sure if this is the right place for me to post this, but I was looking at Lyonel Feininger’s Zirchow VII (1918) recently and noticed there appears to be a face in it. I’m curious if anyone knows the likely reason behind this; whether I’m just inferring a face from a pattern in the paint, or whether there used to be a face on the canvas which has since been painted over. I’ve circled the area I mean in the second image.
