Cricket fan that started watching baseball this past year
Why do teams have base coaches on the field? Isn’t this just spoon feeding and reducing the skill ceiling further? Shouldn’t it be on the runner’s discretion to go for home base or stop at 3rd on an outfield base hit? Why does he need an actual coach to raise his arms to signal him to stop at 3rd instead of trying for home? I imagine they tell them when to steal as well? Another element of skill just completely taken out of the game.
Also I want to say I absolutely love how stats driven this game is. In cricket we just have average and economy, you guys have errors, RBIs, base hits, base hits with runners in scoring positions, base hits with bases loaded, walk offs, lead off base hits, ERA after 2 strikes, stuff like 5-4-3 double play, etc, and not to mention the countless different batting statistics. Also have to add that I liked it better when catchers used to signal pitches using their fingers.
