Should knot have a phonology?

Because of how Knot developed from geometric/mathematical roots, it is
semasiographic: it's kennings are conceptual/somatic rather than rhythmic voiced.
But should it have a phonology? Am I missing something? I like the idea of an entirely unvoiced language - made of sibilants, fricatives, pops and clicks - but I feel that is another project altogether.

Many years ago..

As promised, a little more breakdown on KNOT. A language of 729 ideograms.
The glyphs ideograms of the prior post were re-assigned. These are the correct values.

These are the 80 ROOTS:

'WIND', 'MAN', 'FIRE', 'ROOT', 'EYE', 'SIBLING', 'EAR', 'DAY', 'EARTH',
'EDGE', 'SELF', 'GROUND', 'METAL', 'SMALL', 'WEIGHT', 'MOVE', 'TIME', 'CHILD', 'BODY', 'CIRCLE', 'FALL', 'STRANGER', 'MAYBE', 'GIVE', 'MIXED', 'HAND', 'WATER', 'SKY', 'COLOUR', 'BETWEEN', 'ANIMAL', 'HARNESS', 'NAME', 'FEW', 'POSITION', 'BONE', 'WOOD', 'WATCH', 'PLANT', 'NOT', 'MEND', 'FEAR', 'FEEL', 'HEART', 'MOUTH', 'MANY', 'VIBRATE', 'WAIT', 'KNOW', 'WAS', 'EAT', 'FOOD', 'POINT', 'WOMAN', 'LIGHT', 'REAP', 'ONE', 'HIDE', 'STRING', 'HOLD', 'VOICE', 'SLEEP', 'NOSE', 'HUNT', 'FACT', 'LARGE', 'BREAK', 'FIELD', 'NEXT', 'WILL', 'PATH', 'NIGHT', 'SPACE', 'PLAY', 'AGE', 'BREATH', 'HOUSE', 'WORK', 'HERE', 'MOTHER'

Each of the roots are represented by a 4-trit.. using the encoding [OIX], which represents the edge style of an ideogram: O=no transit, I= straight transit, X=crossed transit.

The glyph is considered clockwise, from the top edge [CRRCRR] - The NORTH/SOUTH 'C' edges of an ideogram hold CASE (except for the caesura/space OOOO, when it indicates PUNCTUATION), whereas the remaining 4 edges (the sides) hold the glyph, with the least significant digit in the top left.

So WIND = is OOOI, MAN is OOOX ... to MOTHER at XXXX

WIND MOVES TREES => WIND(agentive) MANY(abstract) TREE(accusative) MOVE(transitive).

WIND = COOCOI, with agentive OX => OOOXOI;

WIND (agentive)

OOOXOI then indicates the edges of the ideogram.

These are the 9 CASES - the cases are used to shift the ROOT to noun, verb, adjectives..

'XX': 'nom', # nominative
'OI': 'acc', # accusative
'IO': 'gen', # genitive
'OX': 'agt', # agentive
'II': 'loc', # locative
'IX': 'adj', # adjective
'XO': 'trn', # transitive
'XI': 'int', # intransitive
'OO': 'abs' # abstract

Then there is the space / caesura, which carries a different meaning to the CASES

'OO': '.', # full stop', 'end of statement
'OI': '’', # closer - "is what was said"
'IO': '‘', # opener — "she said:... "
'IX': ',', # also / unordered / items of equal weight
'XI': ';', # first / then / ordered / items of ranked weight
'II': ':', # in other words / that is to say / zoom-in
'XO': '∴', # causal break — "because / therefore / then"
'OX': '→', # if/when / conditional / at which point
'XX': '?', # interrogative / ?

This defines the entire language. From which compounds and kennings generate the vocabulary..

The edge constraint (three variations) and count of the sides of the grid (6) generate the full range of ideograms available : 3^6 = 729

For example, given the limited number of ideograms, pronouns, etc are formed via SELF:

SELF[nom] = I
SELF[acc] = me
SELF[gen] = my/mine
SELF[nom]·MANY = we
SELF[acc]·MANY = us
SELF[gen]·MANY = our
NOT[abs]·SELF = he/she/it (the abstract other-self, generic third party)
NOT[acc]·SELF = you (the object-other-self, the one directly addressed)

Here is a test sentence in "Knot"
Knot is an 80 word language with 9 mandatory cases.
The above holds 16 ideograms embedded within a 'foam' substrate, and read in columns - top to bottom, left to right. This text (under the prototype mapping) says

"WAS[adj] AGE[loc] MANY[adj]
ONE[adj] RANK[gen] CHILD[nom]
BREATHE[intrans]
CAESURA[intrans]
CHILD[agent] HUNT[trans] KNOW[acc]
CAESURA[gen]
KNOW[agent] HEART[gen] MEND[acc] GIVE[trans]"

Roughly - Long ago there lived a royal child; the child hunted for knowledge: the knowledge that offers mending of the heart.

Needless to say - kennings are a major feature of this language.

There are 729 glyphs - available as a font, along with a python file to assist with text composition - if you are interested do mention it please.

I hope to share more soon, including the full word / case list and example composition.
The main work left is to establish a lexicon.
