Has anyone ever purchased knock offs on Amazon? Any recommendations?

Can someone please explain to me the extra loop on the thumb of some Japanese gloves? There is one on my emery diamond series I bought 2nd hand and it has 0 functionality as far as I can tell. Figure I'm missing something so im bringing it to the oracle. Thanks in advance.
