Confused about the timeline

I had my naturalization interview (not soudan but the interview) two weeks ago, which is my second attempt (I failed Japanese test in the interview last time). Here’s what happened:

They administered the Japanese test first, then conducted interviews for both me and my wife the same day. I honestly don’t think I performed well on the language test. I was actually prepared to have my application rejected again, like what happened during my first attempt.

However, instead of rejecting me on the spot, my caseworker said they’ll send my documents to Homusho for review and that the case worker will check my answers later.

Here’s what’s confusing me: if I failed the Japanese test or the overall application, will they notify me sooner, or does the timeline remain the same as if I’d passed? I’m worried about waiting months in limbo without knowing where things stand.

Has anyone experienced this? Any insight on whether failed applications get a faster rejection or if everyone waits the same amount of time?
