Opinion: Mini PCs are underrated and not enough innovation has happened

I genuinely think Mini PCs like the Asus ROG NUC have a huge potential to become mainstream and cost less if manufactured at scale (even outside of RAMocalypse)

OEMs still haven't fully optimized the form factor yet. If they add modern cooling solutions like Frore Airjets or miniature liquid cooling circuits, they could have reduced footprint while maintaining desktop level performance.

My ideal build would be an AMD 10800 X3D with 32 GB RAM and an RTX 6090 compacted into a 3 liter form factor like the ROG NUC with hyper-optimized liquid cooling.

What do y'all think?

2027 ROG mini PC wishlist: 10800x3D, RTX 6090, 32 GB ddR5-8000

with the same 3L form factor as ROG NUC.
Liquid/hybrid cooling with new tools like Frore Airjet Mini devices could help maintain low temps

I'm sorry but 100-400 is NOT the most suitable lens for bird photography

I keep seeing people commenting here about how the upcoming lens will be a dream for birders. I have been doing bird photography for over 10 years and I find even 600mm inadequate to reach birds with ideal framing.

Here's what 100-400 range is actually better suited for:

  • Animal safaris where you could get close to animals (medium telephoto range)
  • Sports
  • Landscape shots requiring tele perspective and high compression look

If you primarily shoot bird photos/videos, you'll be better off investing in the likes of Sony 200-600 or Sigma 300-600 f4 (and get at least a 1.4x teleconverter)

Ideal Pixel xx "Pro" wishlist

Google clearly hasn't made any "pro" model pro enough. Here's what actually would make future models worthy of 'Pro' moniker -

  • Reliable modem and connectivity (should be standard on non-pro too btw)
  • 2 day battery life even with moderate-to-heavy use
  • ultra-fast storage and retrieval
  • 1-inch camera sensors with s-o-t-a OIS
  • Advanced ISP to ensure pro level video capture (no skipped frames, no jitters, no color shifting, smooth exposure transitions, manual controls for exposure triangle)

Don't care about gimmicky features like a glowing bar or temp sensor or face unlock. Just make the basics strong enough and I'll be a happy customer.

I have used YouTube for education and research purpose for over a decade and the removal of this sort function has not simply been a massive inconvenience, but a critical bottleneck in my day-to-day activity.

Idk which Product / UX team makes decisions these days at YT, but sorting by upload date is THE MOST BASIC functional requirement and THE MOST COMMON USE-CASE across any content platform user-base.
Surely they must have analytics to corroborate how often and how many people sort their search results?

It baffles me how a trillion dollar company fails customers with the simplest most basic logical aspects of day to day experience.
