Pixel 11 Pro Endurance & Efficiency Test: +2h over 10 Pro, but still far behind rivals

Pixel 11 Pro Endurance & Efficiency Test: +2h over 10 Pro, but still far behind rivals

>Battery Life: Still not enough

The Pixel 11 Pro shows slight improvement in an area where the lineup has long struggled. It has to make do with a smaller battery than its predecessor—4,850 mAh compared to 4,870 mAh on the Pixel 10 Pro—but the Tensor G6 proves to be more power-efficient. In our viSer test simulating standard usage, it reached 17 hours and 36 minutes, nearly two hours longer than the previous model. A full day of use is well within reach, even though Google remains among the least enduring in our comparison.

Google Pixel 11 Pro battery slightly worse, XL slightly better

The Pixel 11 Pro XL lasted 14 hours and 28 minutes in our custom battery test, which involves continuous web browsing over a 5G connection. That's only eight minutes more than the Pixel 10 Pro XL's 14 hours and 10 minutes.

The Pixel 11 Pro actually does worse than last year's Pixel 10 Pro, with a battery life of 13 hours and 25 minutes compared to the 10 Pro's 13 hours 43 minutes.

Few hours with Google Pixel 11 Pro XL

A couple of things after getting my Google Pixel 11 Pro XL today:

  1. Phone still gets hot when using it, not sure if it is better than any previous generation though.
  2. Awesome to see the night sight video now works on 0.5x zoom wide angle, I always found the 1x zoom on night sight a bit bummer.
  3. 120x zoom doesn't work well if trying on entire human figure (not just face only) or text.
  4. Not finding it as much of a upgrade coming from Pixel 9 Pro XL in terms of daily screen usage like browsing webpage, navigate between apps, etc.
  5. Cool to see there's AI model can be extended for the camera (ex: 120x zoom model is installed, and I expect more cooler AI camera related feature be expanded)
  6. Smooth transition from my old Pixel 9 Pro XL into new Pixel 11 Pro XL. My old phone automatically detected the new Pixel 11 Pro XL and the setup transition is very smooth. My sim card is also automatically turned into esim now.
  7. The hilight is pretty pointless. Google might want to allow more customization, otherwise it's truly not worth mentioning it.
  8. The magic capture video itself is slightly laggy, the photo it took is quite amazing. But not sure if it is the same quality as taking photos manually.
  9. (from the comment) Internet speed test on both phones, Pixel 11 Pro XL returns 302.9 Mbps download 160.9 Mbps upload, Pixel 9 Pro XL returns 59.6 Mbps download 37.4 Mbps upload.

That's pretty much it! Everyone has their own favorable points about Pixel 11 Pro XL, for me it's the night sight video with wide angle supported that's quite unexpected. The rest are probably just fine. Not a bad upgrade for me imo.

Is 4GB of RAM worth paying $120 extra?

I don't play games, but I do take a lot of pics and want a snappy phone. Do phones with less RAM tend to age worse than phones with higher RAM?

Android Police seems to think the 12GB version will be worse, but that could also be a one-off thing. Wondering if others have had a similar experience.

Pixel 11 early impressions

Got my Pixel 11 Pro a few days earlier than release date in Australia. I upgraded from 9 pro xl and am your average user.

Reason for upgrade was a good deal for trade in combined with shitty modem of P9 series based on my personal use case.

After first 24 hours here are some things I have noticed compared to P9pro XL

  1. The phone runs much cooler overall and while charging.

  2. Aesthetically its identical to 9 and 10 series. Not much difference in feel etc.

  3. Display is also identical in terms of brightness, sharpness etc.

  4. 11 is much more snappier than P9 but that is expected from a new phone Ofcourse.

  5. New features like hilight and rambler are mostly just a software gimmick imo that you will most probably try for a few times and forget about.

  6. Biggest change i have noticed is in terms of phone's reception and battery consumption while using 5g etc. The new modem is actually heaps better than before in terms of performance and efficiency.

Battery life is similar or marginally better than before. That takes into account that its a new phone but overall similar times in terms of screen on and overall usage.

All in all a worthy upgrade if you had issues with reception or heating issues with older pixels. If not, better off keeping your old phone because not much different in terms of day to day experience for me. P.S : one feature i miss is battery share. I used to charge my pixel buds on P9proxl but can't anymore

Happy to answer any questions.

Pixel 11 owners, how's the modem?

Pixels 6-10 have historically had modem issues with the Exynos modems. How's the Mediatek modem on the 11? Any noticeable first impressions?

Google Pixel 10 Pro 4 870 mAh 10h11

Our battery test score shows that the Pro models show a slight improvement over the previous generation. However, we must note that the new MediaTek modem, which in theory could do a lot for battery life, did not struggle much in our test. This is because there is a cell tower located a few hundred meters from our test lab. Furthermore, half of our test runs over the Wi-Fi network.

More battery life outdoors

*To get a better idea of the modem, we ran a small additional test. In this test, the phone was constantly connected to 5G and had to browse web pages in a loop and stream a video. We used Android's built-in APIs for battery statistics to log how much power the modem consumed. In a test of just over two hours, the modem in the Pixel 11 Pro XL was about 17 percent more efficient than the one in the Pixel 10 Pro XL.

So, if you are often on the go, you might notice a bigger difference in battery life with the Pixel 11 series. But even then: Pixels have never had the best battery life, and that is no different this year. Almost all competitors perform better, regardless of which brand you prefer.*

Four different Pixel phones. Four serious hardware failures in ~3 years. Now Google won't repair my Pixel 9 Pro because of a tiny scratch.

I'm posting this because I genuinely regret switching from iPhone to Pixel, and I want other people considering the switch to know what my household has experienced.

This isn't one phone having multiple problems.

Four different Pixel phones in my household have had serious hardware failures in roughly three years.

Three developed severe battery swelling and became unusable.

One of those phones became extremely hot and burned me while I was heavily pregnant. My wife's Pixel also developed severe battery swelling. She wasn't injured, but the phone became unusable and she lost photos that were important to us.

We had to replace these phones while we were still paying for them, and we spent additional time dealing with Google support trying to figure out what Google could do.

The answer was essentially that there was nothing Google could do.

Now the fourth Pixel has failed.

My Pixel 9 Pro has the vertical pink-line display defect

My Pixel 9 Pro developed one vertical pink line.

Then it developed two.

The display is now difficult to use for things like reading text and numbers that I need for work.

I contacted Google on July 5.

What followed was a month of support interactions, repeated requests for information I had already provided, and an escalation that Google told me was specifically intended to find an alternative resolution.

On July 16, Google Fi Support told me:

>

They specifically documented my circumstances and told me the team would determine whether an advanced replacement or another expedited option could be authorized.

So I waited.

I provided my IMEI.

Photos.

Proof of purchase.

Device information.

I answered the same basic questions for multiple representatives.

I followed up when the promised timeframes passed.

Eventually, after nearly a month, Google told me that an alternative resolution wasn't approved and directed me to an authorized repair center.

So I made it happen.

My wife and I both work 9–5 and we have a one-year-old. Getting several hours without our son isn't something we can casually arrange.

I finally had childcare available.

I called the uBreakiFix location in Burlington, Massachusetts beforehand.

They told me they had the Pixel 9 Pro display in stock and that the repair would take approximately 2–3 hours.

So I arranged everything and drove about 30 minutes to the store.

And they refused to repair it.

The reason?

A tiny scratch on the screen.

The repair center gave me this in writing:

>

The scratch is very small.

While I was there, I specifically asked what makes a scratch “deep” enough to disqualify the phone.

I was not given an objective measurement or threshold.

I asked whether they were saying the scratch caused the pink lines.

But Google's latest response to me actually says:

>

So Google is not claiming that the scratch necessarily caused my display failure.

They're saying the scratch independently disqualifies the phone from the Extended Repair Program because replacing the display requires replacing the entire display assembly.

And because the authorized repair center classified the scratch as “deep,” Google says it cannot override that determination.

So let me make sure I understand what happened:

Google knew about the display defect.

Google told me my case was being escalated to explore alternative solutions.

I spent approximately a month providing information and waiting.

Google eventually sent me to an authorized repair center.

I arranged childcare.

I called ahead and confirmed the part was in stock.

I drove 30 minutes to the repair center.

They inspected the phone.

They determined that a tiny scratch disqualified the entire repair.

And I drove home with the same broken phone.

This is what I'm angry about.

It's not just the money.

It's the time.

Google repeatedly represented that it was going to look for a way to help me because the normal repair process created a significant burden.

Instead, I spent a month waiting for that process to happen, only to be sent back to the standard repair process.

Then I spent more time arranging childcare and physically traveling to the authorized repair center.

And after all of that, I'm being told that a tiny scratch means Google won't repair the display defect.

I don't want an upgrade.

I don't want to trade phones with my wife.

I don't want to give someone else a broken phone.

I want the phone I bought to work.

And after four different Pixel phones and four serious hardware failures in roughly three years, I'm having a very hard time believing that Pixel is a reliable product line.

Three phones had battery swelling severe enough to make them unusable.

The fourth has the pink-line display failure.

At this point, I regret leaving iPhone.

What I'm asking for

I'm not asking Reddit to give me a free phone.

I'm asking whether anyone else has experienced this.

Has anyone with a Pixel 9 Pro/9 Pro XL been denied the Extended Repair Program because of a small scratch?

If so:

  • How was “deep scratch” determined?
  • Did Google actually provide an objective standard?
  • Were you eventually able to get the display repaired?
  • Did escalation help?
  • Did anyone successfully challenge the physical-damage determination?

And if anyone from Google with the ability to actually review these cases sees this:

Please look at my case.

I have the complete support history, photos of the display defect, photos of the scratch, proof of purchase, and the authorized repair center's written denial.

I have followed every step Google asked me to take.

I don't think it is reasonable to spend more than a month being told that Google is looking for a solution, only to ultimately be sent to a repair center and denied because of a tiny scratch that Google itself acknowledges may not have caused the display failure.

I just want the defective display repaired.

What are you going to use your store credit for?

I got £92 in credits for my pixel 11 pro purchase. Got a nano pop spigen case and screen protector ready for the delivery tomorrow.

Thinking about what to use these for. Eyeing the fitbit tracker, or maybe upgrading my pixel buds (first generation) to pixel buds 2 pro, anyone did the jump?

Pixel 8a pulls about .8 W while wireless charging

Hey all, last night I noticed that my 8a was charging SUPER slowly while on my magsafe charger (it's not the pixelsnap one, just one off Amazon with a magsafe case) and when I looked at the charging details, I saw that it was fluctuating the charge between .1 W and 2 W, sometimes just staying at .8 W. I figured something was wrong with the charger, but I tried it with my other phone but it worked just fine. I have a non magsafe wireless charger and when I tried that, it still pulled very low wattage. Wired charging works fine, and according to Gemini something's wrong with my coils or the QI chip or whatever it's called. Anyone else have had this issue, or any idea what caused it? I've been using wireless charging to charge my phone overnight for 2 years now, so I really don't understand how this happened.

Note: I have no clue if this breaks rule 2, but I'm going to assume it doesn't seeing as this is a charging issue and not a battery issue.
