What is the price difference between ceramic and steel thrust ball bearings ?
Working on a project on industrial components where we are deciding between ceramic and standard steel thrust ball bearings, and am getting a bit stuck on pricing differences. I know ceramic handles higher temperatures, lower friction and doesn't corrode, but every quote I am getting for ceramic is 2-3x the price of steel. What is the actual price difference ?
I have been comparing online like Alibaba suppliers, and I keep seeing a huge gap in pricing, but it's not always what justifies it in real-world use. Steel thrust ball bearings seem to be much more affordable and widely available, while ceramic ones are advertised as higher performance, corrosion resistant and longer lasting-but also significantly more expensive.
From what I can tell, ceramic bearings sometimes cost several times more than steel, depending on size and material quality. So for the engineers here, What are the actual price differences you've seen for thrust ball bearings? In what cases did ceramic actually pay for itself long term?Trying to figure out if it's worth pushing for ceramic or if steel is the smarter move ?
