Now the new colors say “coming soon”

instead of “sold out”. I was waiting to make a big purchase until they come out but I have a strong feeling they’re gonna release them after the current sale they’re running is over…wondering if I should place my order now while I can still take advantage of the sale and then order the new ones when they finally release. Ugh.

New Artkal midi colors!

I’m curious why they made a whole new series when they already have so many options in the S series, but I definitely see some colors that I’m interested in! Thoughts??

New Perler Colors!

This is so exciting. They previewed a few, but what shades are we hoping for? I would love a deep dark red.

Great 4 days exploring Olympic & Mount Rainier

We had such a great time at these beautiful parks and got lucky with incredible weather. I thought I’d share an overview of our itinerary as adults (20s & 50s) who are semi-novice hikers. I appreciate everyone’s advice on here leading up to and during the trip, the suggestions were super helpful! Hopefully posting this helps some planners in the future.

(Starts at Day 3 bc we started in Seattle)

Day 3: Olympic National Park (Port Angeles→Forks)
Morning: Check out & leave early for Hurricane Ridge (~38 min drive from Port Angeles)
Leave by 6:30/7am to avoid crowds
Hurricane Hill - 3.4 mile out and back begins at the end of the Hurricane Ridge Road. Park here.
Mid-Day: Stop at Visitor Center (~35 min drive) before heading to Lake Crescent.
Lunch: Granny’s Cafe after VC
Afternoon: Lake Crescent (~30 min drive from Visitor Center)
Kayaking - rent kayaks from Lake Crescent Lodge
Book here. $25/person for 1 hour
Late Afternoon Sol Duc Falls on the way to Forks (~38 min drive from Lake Crescent)
Sol Duc Falls Trail - 1.6 mile out and back gentle and short hike through old-growth forest to a beautiful three-prong waterfall
Stop at Salmon Cascades on the way out
Evening: Drive to Forks (~1 hour) for Airbnb check in & dinner

Day 4: Olympic National Park (Forks)
Morning: Hoh Rain Forest (leave by 6am to avoid crowds, 50 minute drive)
Hall of Mosses Trail - 1.1 mile easy loop
Spruce Nature Trail - 1.4 mile rainforest loop
Check out Visitor Center
Mid-Day: Back to Forks for lunch & relax
Afternoon: Rest
Evening: Beach hike/Tidepooling at low tide
Second Beach - 2.2 mile out and back out and back to beach. Park here.

Day 5: Mount Rainier National Park (Forks→Ashford)
Morning: Depart for Ashford (~4hr drive, leave by 6am)
On the way, last Olympic stop at Kalaloch Beach (get there at low tide) and Tree of Life.
Mid-Day: Stop for lunch
Afternoon: Paradise Area & Visitor’s Center
Myrtle Falls via Skyline Trail - 1 mile out and back paved trail with elevation gain and stairs to get to the falls.
Nisqually Vista Trail - 1.1 mile paved loop with glacier views
Evening: Head to Ashford for Airbnb check in & dinner

Day 6: Mount Rainier National Park (Ashford)
Morning: Ohanapecosh area, 55 min drive
Silver Falls via Eastside Trail - 1.3 mi out and back to falls, moderate with 239ft elevation gain
Late Morning: Box Canyon and Lakes
Box Canyon Trail - 0.4 mi paved loop into a slot canyon
Bench and Snow Lakes - 2.3 mi out and back (hard but beautiful)
Afternoon: Rest
Evening: Dinner

Yes, we could’ve done more, and I am a little disappointed we didn’t do the Skyline loop, but with where we were in our trip and where our exhaustion levels were at, it would’ve been difficult. If you’re up for it, go for it, it looks incredible. Maybe I’ll come back and do it one day. I think in total we did a little over 20 miles of hiking which is great for the level we were at. Hopefully with more practice and experience we can do even more.

Rain on Thursday…change itinerary?

This was our itinerary for Thursday in Rainier…just saw on the forecast it’s supposed to rain. Should we stick to our planned itinerary or switch it up? Will any of the trails be too wet/muddy? Not gonna get our hopes up for lack of clouds for a nice view which is unfortunate, but that’s what we get for only having a day and a half 😅😩 Would love to hear people’s thoughts/suggestions. Thanks!

How's my itinerary?

Going in a few weeks...weekdays in mid-July. Coming from Seattle (Days 1-2) and Olympic NP (Days 3-4). We don't have a ton of time so I wanted to try to fit the highlights in but not be too overwhelmed/tired. I'm open to any and all suggestions based on what I planned. Thank you!

Tape method driving me crazy

I’ve been doing the tape method for so long and I kept thinking with time I’d get the hang of it. Practice would make perfect. But no matter how many times I do it I still deal with one issue: shifting. The beads shift so much once I flip it and take the boards off. These pics were taken mid-melt. Is my tape not strong enough? I’m noticing my boards also don’t connect very tightly so that could be a contributing factor too. I stopped poking holes bc it kept getting messed up with the tool I was using and I only iron one side anyway. Here’s my current method, please let me know what I can be doing better:

  1. Tape carefully but quickly with blue painter’s tape.
  2. Use exacto knife to cut excess tape.
  3. Place wood board on top and flip.
  4. Carefully remove connecting boards.
  5. Place ironing film on top and secure lightly with tape so it doesn’t move.
  6. Use heat press at 330° to melt.

Any and all advice is appreciated!!!
