Climbing Mt Rainier for the first time

I’m driving from Southern Oregon to Mount Rainier in 10 days. the goal, to reach the summit

My partner chickened out and it’s not the type of adventure you want to do it solo, wondering if anyone is willing to go

Mt. Rainier always amazes me. I always find the best view is from around 4000 feet at 5am.

Took these while piloting a hot air balloon. Excited that the clouds are clearing and we're getting perfect weather again. The mountain is going to be out all week!

Is noon too late to enter in mid September?

Heading to Seattle for a wedding in mid-September. I plan to get there on a Thursday around 9:30am, and go straight from the airport to try and do skyline loop.

I’ve been to a handful of national parks, and I know how insanely busy they get. If this were Rocky Mountain or Glacier, I’d know this wouldn’t be possible. Since it’ll be later in the season and on a weekday, is it doable?

If the paradise area would be too busy, does anyone else have any other less busy recommendations?

Best spots for watching sunrise at Mt. Rainier

I'll be visiting Mt. Rainier soon and would love to see a sunrise. What are your favorite spots/hikes for watching sunrise from either the paradise area or the sunrise area? I'm excited about the sunrise area opening soon and looking for recommendations regarding nice vantage points in either of the locations, preferably with easy to moderate hikes.

Please give all your tips!!! (NEW to Mount Rainier)

This is our current plan. We come the day before so we can get in early. We are a family of 5 (kids are 11, 13, and 15). Want to introduce our girls to hiking, and mostly here for the beautiful views, not strenuous hiking. Any tips on our agenda?

Would also love any tips for getting to each thing, or directions to go, or places to avoid.

Also, we'll be there all day. Any tips for places to eat, or do we need to stop somewhere the day before to stock up on snacks/food?

Also, my girls are a little nervous about wildlife, especially bears (they saw things online about bears that often approach the trails, which makes sense)... how frequently does this happen?

Cougar Rock or White River Campsite?

I am spending 2 nights camping in Mt. Rainier National Forest and am deciding between Cougar Rock and White River. I looked and both have access to some pretty cool trails: Skyline loop, pinnacle peak, comet falls, and van trump for Cougar, and Mt Fremont Lookout, Burroughs, and Sunrise for White River. I'm having a hard time choosing. Does anyone have any opinions or insider info on if one has much better trails or access to trails, or is just a better area to be in? Would it be worth it to do one night in each campground or would that be a hassle?

My Rainier this thrusday

Hello Everyone, I am in Seattle with my family for the week until Friday afternoon. I am planning on a day trip to the paradise area of MT Rainier. Unfortunately the weather has not been great this week and I have changed my original plan of visiting my Rainier NP on Tuesday to Thursday as the weather predicts clear skys. Any thoughts on this? Is Thursday the best this week as I always considered this to be a special one for our trip.

Late afternoon arrival in Paradise on July 3rd

Do you think there will be parking available in Paradise after 4pm on July 3rd? If not, is Sunrise a viable late afternoon arrival option (assuming it opens on that day)?

How's my itinerary?

Going in a few weeks...weekdays in mid-July. Coming from Seattle (Days 1-2) and Olympic NP (Days 3-4). We don't have a ton of time so I wanted to try to fit the highlights in but not be too overwhelmed/tired. I'm open to any and all suggestions based on what I planned. Thank you!

Cougar Rock Campground

Hi there, I was trying to get a campsite at Cougar Rock Campground for 7/3-7/5 but I missed the limited available reservations this morning. It shows a lot of spots as “FF” which I think is first come first served. Do you know how early people get there to snag those spots?

Do I need any timed entry reservations or permits for Mt Rainier for day hikes?

Thank you in advance for any help!
