I have a meeting in a few minutes with my AP about a complaint from a parent. I was absent on Monday and left an assignment for the students to complete on their chromebooks. Multiple students did not even open the assignment, much less complete it. I gave a zero to the students who did nothing. When I asked them the next day what they did instead, they shrugged their shoulders. One student complained to his parent who has written me scathing emails saying that I am going against the school's "grace period". Our policy (which we have no choice in) says that students can turn in missing assignments up to 4 days late with a 10% point deduction per day. After that, it's a zero. This assignment was classwork, not homework. They had 50 minutes to complete it (most that completed it only needed about 20 minutes). He chose to do absolutely nothing at all for that entire time. I feel the zero is justified. Any thoughts?
