Zero non-clinical

Hi guys, so I am applying this cycle and had a question about non-clinical volunteering.

Basically I do volunteering at a street med organization where we help homeless people. We do both clinical and non-clinical stuff (like giving out food, passing out free clothes, providing essentials).

But I made the mistake of lumping it into one activity on AMCAS and labeled it as clinical volunteering.

Will I get screened? I also have a club I founded that is focused on underserved but I labeled that as leadership.

Will I get heavily screened at service schools like Loyola? I truly did do a lot of non clinical just could not label it.

Please let me know.

Question

Hi guys I am posting for a friend as he does not have a reddit account and asked me to post on his behalf.

“I have Duane syndrome, an eye condition that primarily affects the inward movement of my right eye and, to a lesser extent, its outward movement, while my left eye is unaffected. If I’m being honest, my experience with Duane syndrome is one of the main reasons I’m drawn to ophthalmology. Growing up, I experienced significant bullying and other challenges because of my eye, and an ophthalmologist had a profound impact on my life after performing four surgeries to improve the condition. My depth perception is intact, and the condition does not interfere with my ability to function clinically, but it remains an important part of my personal connection to the field.
Would it be appropriate to discuss this experience in my ophthalmology residency personal statement, or could disclosing that I have an eye condition cause programs to view me negatively or question my ability to pursue ophthalmology?”

No non-clinical

Hi guys,
I really need advice.

So I realized that after I submitted my primary I had no activities on amcas labeled as non-clinical volunteering.

However, technically I do have a lot but I blended it in with my clinical volunteering experience as I helped with homeless people. And I also have a club, which on AMCAS I labeled as leadership, where I do a lot of non-clinical.

Will I get flagged and will this hurt me a lot? My mcat is not too high 511, but 3.9 gpa and ORM. so I wanted to apply broadly but I am scared that this will hurt me a lot.

Please let me know what to do. For now I am thinking about emphasizing it in the secondaries. I am just hoping that I do not get screened out by a computer.

Listing Submitted Pubs

Hi guys, for med school apps should we list in submission pubs?

For context, i have 4 published papers and 1 in submission. the in submission is related to a poster that was presented at a conference. some people said to not list in submission one whereas some say its fine. what should i do.

Help with schedule

Testing 6/27.

Unscored:505
Fl1: 504 (128,123,126,127)
Fl3: 505 (129,124, 126,126)
Fl2: 509 Took after fl3 (129,125,129,126)

Finished BB section bank 1 and 2 in between FL3 and FL2.
averaged 80 untimed.

Currently need to finish SB for chem phys and psych soc for SB 1 and 2.

And uworld I finished all except gen chem and ochem where i have 500isj left.
doing daily pankow

I need to take fl4,5,6.

What is a good plan?

Is 515 really not doable.. ? I feel my issue is approaching passages under time. Especially CARS, i would read and sort of forget what i was reading. this wastes me time and i lose focus.

Any tips would be very helpful

Schedule Advice

Testing 6/27.

So far, I finished BB and PS uworld. And have about 750 C/P uworld remaining.

Took unscored over a month ago: ~505
Took FL1: 128/123/126/127 (504) Didn’t finish pankow or uworld bb)
Took FL3: 129/124/126/126 (505): Still didn’t finish pankow here

I think my main issue was timing for BB. Had hard time trying to analyze passage within allotted time. For cars, I needed to work on pacing.

Right now I was able to go through all Pankow cards. Finished section bank 1 BB (80%) and SB 2 BB(79%) but did these untimed.

I want to get through FL2, FL4, FL5, and FL6. Finish uworld C/P, Section bank 1/2 C/P and P/S.

Should I finish C/P uworld before doing FL2? Do I have enough time? Is 515 a doable score?

Question

Has anyone lived around 340X Wallace Street near Drexel? I'm thinking about renting an apartment there, but I'm an out-of-state student and can't check it out in person. The rent is only $700/month, which seems surprisingly cheap. Is the area safe? Any red flags or things I should know before signing a lease?
