Hi everyone, I’m an international student deciding between two offers in Sydney and would love some feedback from current students or alumni!

The Options:

  • UTS (Medical Biotech Extension): 2 years. Very focused on medical apps, diagnostics, and professional skills (leadership/management).
  • Macquarie (Master of Biotech): Heavy emphasis on the molecular biology foundation, biochemistry, and lab-heavy research.

My Goals: Have industry-ready skills to have a job- whether it be in the lab or corporate.

Looking for advice on:

  • Which program is better for Biotech? UTS seems very medical and "professional skills" focused, while Macquarie feels more molecular and research-heavy. For those in the industry, which focus is actually more in-demand in Sydney right now?
  • International Student Support: Which uni is better at accommodating international students? I’m looking for things like help with the transition and student groups.
  • Industry Links: UTS is in the city near the tech hubs, but Macquarie is right next to the North Ryde innovation district (big pharma). Which uni is better at actually helping students land internships or jobs?
  • Study Modality? Is it mostly online or onsite?

Thanks in advance for any insights!
