Recurring gagging/swallowing episodes in dog?
My dog has been having these really weird recurring episodes for several days now and I’m honestly at a loss. She starts hacking/gagging, repeatedly swallowing, drooling, lip smacking, licking the floor obsessively and doing this thing where she pushes her head/neck forward like she’s trying to gag something up. Sometimes she sneezes or snorts too. The weirdest part is that it seems heavily triggered by swallowing. Water has triggered it, food has triggered it, peanut butter with meds triggered it, even trying to eat grass outside triggered it. She’ll have an awful episode for like 1-2 hours where she paces, licks nonstop and seems super nauseous, then eventually calm down and sleep normally for a while before it happens again later. Her lymph nodes under her jaw/throat are swollen too. She’s been to the vet 3 times already, had normal chemistry bloodwork, got anti inflammatory shots twice, fluids, and antibiotics. The anti inflammatory shots seem to help temporarily which makes me think inflammation is a huge part of this. The vet keeps saying throat irritation/inflammation but I feel like there has to be something more specific causing it. She is still pooping and peeing, her gums are pink, her belly stays soft, and she’s still interested in food at times. I’m just wondering if anyone has dealt with something similar because the swallowing/nausea/floor licking cycle is freaking me out.
