So Darla has had some seizures so we took her to the vet and we did bloodwork and that came back fine, we have her medication to try and ease the seizures but i’m freaking out because i can’t sleep knowing i might not hear her and i won’t be there for her. I’ve emailed all of the grant groups and go fund me isn’t working on my phone. I just want some advice on what to do.

Advice on new kitten with dog

I feel so weird asking a bunch of strangers to give me advice on this situation but I feel like this is the only way I can find any direction given how indecisive I can be.

Long story short, I’ve had my border collie for about 4 years now (got him as a puppy) and he’s just the best dog in the world. My husband and I were suddenly feeling like we needed to add a kitten to our life (we had some before when we got our dog because the original plan was to have cats but we got so attached to our dog that we had to give away the kittens to friends around that time), but now we felt like we were really ready for a feline companion.

Fast forward to this week, I’m currently doing a foster to adopt and it’s only been 3 days but the kitten just really hates my dog. He’s very curious about her and with her size, probably looks so scary and big so I understand that this could take some time. Yesterday she got so frightened when he creeped up on us in her separate room (I’m keeping her between my laundry and study room), that she let out a really bad stank from her anal glands I’m guessing. I just don’t know if they’ll ever get along and feel like I’ve made a huge mistake bringing her here.

I’m just feeling so conflicted and my husband hasn’t been very helpful in this decision making process and is basically saying “you do what you wanna do”. She’s soooo cute and feel like I’m already attached but at the same time I feel like I’m fighting to divide my time between my WFH job, giving my dog attention, and tiring this little kitty out. Will this all be worth it? I really don’t know what to do and almost decided today that I should just give her back to the shelter.

I just launched my first app after ~3 weeks of nonstop vibe coding and somehow survived like 10 App Store rejections 😭

The app is called Puplytics.

Before this project I had basically zero real coding experience. I went from not understanding app structure at all to learning React Native / Expo workflows, App Store Connect, subscriptions, AI APIs, privacy compliance, camera permissions, TestFlight builds, backend deployment, and debugging random production issues at 2am.

Honestly the hardest part wasn’t even building the app — it was getting through Apple review.

I got rejected for:
• subscription flow issues
• missing legal links
• camera permission wording
• AI consent flow compliance
• metadata problems
• purchase restore handling
• sandbox purchase behavior
• UI edge cases on iPad
…and probably more I’m forgetting lol.

The app itself is a dog wellness tracking app focused on digestive health and daily wellness tracking.

Features include:
• AI stool scan analysis
• symptom tracking
• food logging
• sleep & mood tracking
• AI wellness chat
• trend analysis
• downloadable vet reports
• multi-pet support
• reminders and history timelines

The original idea came from dealing with recurring stomach issues with my own dog and constantly forgetting what food changes or symptoms happened during vet visits.

So I basically built the app I wished existed.

The craziest part is realizing how much you can actually build now if you’re willing to learn while moving fast.

Would genuinely love feedback from other builders / vibe coders:
• UI/UX thoughts
• onboarding feedback
• feature ideas
• App Store screenshots
• monetization thoughts
• anything that feels confusing or broken

Still improving it daily. (As of right now it’s been live for about 20 minutes lol)

The app is called Puplytics on the App Store if anyone wants to roast/test it 🙏

Fleas please help

For the past week I’ve been house sitting and watching my uncles dogs while he’s away. Well earlier today as the dog was SITTING IN MY LAP I noticed a small insect like thing running through its fur. I’m not 100% but I’m pretty sure it’s a flea. I’ve never dealt with fleas before but how to I ensure I don’t take them home with me to my dogs, and keep my dogs safe from infestation??

Shichon bit me

I (19, F) have a 3 year old Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise mix. He's bit me before, but it was when he was a puppy and he never broke skin. It was my fault because I grabbed him in a way that I never grabbed him before, but I didn't think he would bite me.

Tonight, I was exercising in the living room for the first time in a while and he stepped on my new mat. He scratched up my old mat and had a couple of accidents on it when he was a puppy, so this time I tried to tell him to stay off the mat. It was a new command for him, but he kept walking on it and sitting on it, so I picked him up and placed him on the floor. The first time I picked him up I think he thought it was a game, so he sat on the mat again. The second time I picked him up I grabbed a little bit too low (my right hand was on his ribs like normal but my left hand was below them) and he bit my left wrist. When he bit me in the past, he used to just snip at me but this time he growled and held on for longer. Like his top teeth basically grazed my hand and I have two bloody punctures from his bottom teeth and one from his top (3 level 3 bites I think).

I know it was because he was in pain, but after I yelled at him because I don't want him biting anyone else. My mom's always had some anxiety with dogs which is why we got a little one, but since he bit me so hard she wants to give him away. I'm in college right now and she just went back to in-person working about a year ago and she's talked about how hard it is taking care of him before but I'm not ready to give him away.

I've always wanted a dog when I was a kid and now that he's mine, I don't want to give him away. He's always been really good at listening and following directions and he's never been violent. Even when he bit in the past it was always when he was playing and he stopped doing that pretty easily. My mom's not gonna support him going to a trainer and I don't really have the money for that anyway, so I want to learn how to fix this while I'm home this summer but I don't know what to do.

Need advice for my dog…

Hi everyone, I’m hoping for a bit of advice or to hear from anyone who may have experienced something similar with their Dachshund ❤️

I have a 7-year-old standard Dachshund who has been having an ongoing issue on and off for over a year now, and honestly I’m feeling a bit lost on what to do.

Every few weeks he seems to have trouble going to the toilet (for a number two). He goes very frequently and strains a lot, but very little comes out. Alongside this, his stools can have fresh red blood in them and are often very mucus/jelly-like in texture.

We’ve been back and forth to the vets multiple times. They’ve done tests and stool samples and everything has come back clear. The vet thought it could possibly be colitis, so he has been on original Chappie tinned food for almost a month now (was originally on butternut box). Things actually seemed to be improving, but today we’re right back to square one.

Today he’s taking a very long time to have a bowel movement and when he does it’s only a very small amount of mucus-like stool with fresh blood.

Other than these toilet issues he is completely himself, eating fine, drinking normally, playing, walking, sleeping well and generally being his happy little self, which I think is why the vets haven’t been too alarmed. But I’m definitely a worrier and an overthinker, so my mind is going everywhere.

We are absolutely planning to take him back to the vet again if this continues, but I just wondered whether anyone else has had a Dachshund with similar symptoms or experiences?

Thank you so much in advance!

Should I take all my cat's teeth out?

Hi,

We have a domestic longhair male cat who is about ~10 years old. He's orange & white (rarely gets to use the braincell) neutered and currently weighing in around 3.7kg.

Most of the time we have had him (re-homed him around 2 years old in 2018) he has had loose stools. Our previous vets never seemed too concerned about this. After recently moving house and changing vets, our new ones are more concerned and we've been advised to try some specific food and have seen some noticeable improvements. We also then had a full abdominal "workup" (X-Rays and Ultrasound) due to concerns around inflammation which overall found nothing major but did show that some of his kidney function looks to have diminished though not to the point of kidney disease yet thankfully.

He has also suffered fairly long term from gingivitis. He's had a dental scale before and though we have tried to brush his teeth we have never had much success getting him to put up with it. His teeth are now quite bad again and certainly due for another procedure.

Given this combined with the abdominal workup, ourvets have suggested they would like to extract all his teeth due to:

  • High likeliness that he will require regular dental procedures given the condition of his teeth now
  • High priority of reducing any sources of inflammation to try to protect his remaining kidney function

They are suggesting we do this in two procedures at least 6 weeks apart - each procedure extracting half the teeth. We've been quoted between £1600 and £2000 per procedure so an expected total cost of ~£3200-4000. This seems on the high side but it's hard to tell without "shopping around".

I have heard that many cats do very well after having this kind of procedure but would be very grateful to hear any informed opinions on if this seems like a reasonable course of action at this point. It's obviously a fairly major procedure to put him through that I want to ensure is the right thing before we go ahead.

Thanks in advance.

Single adult adopting 8 month old dog with current 8 yr old cat, need advice

Hi,

Need some perspectives as I’ve never had a cat AND dog. Grown up with large dogs, had 4 at one time at one point then they all died of old age. I ended up adopting a cat who is 8 yrs old now, have had her 3 years. Can hop to last paragraph for question, but backstory might help.

Past weekend, I stopped on my motorcycle at a closed down gas station I normally stop at for a coffee break and to read in the shade and this young dog came running up and flopped all over me (not a puppy but definitely not a year old yet). He licked my armpit (one of my dogs loved doing that to get me to squeal) and the book I had grabbed to start reading that day is called The Guardian by Nick Sparks (about a woman gifted a dog that later saved herlife). Hard coincidences for me to ignore lol.

Anyways, I walked around to all the homes in area to ask if they had seen him or knew him and it’s apparently a dump spot by one woman’s opinion. He was covered in fleas and dehydrated but looked decently fed. I left and returned with bowl for water, dog food, and flea/tick to put on him but I couldn’t take him as I was on bike. Broke my heart but I left, (it was 2 hours away in a different state) and went back next day in my car. He was still there and ran up to me.

I rent a townhome and my landlord wasn’t able to return my call until the weekday so I took him to shelter…wasn’t sure what to do with my cat and him since I had no prep or ok from landlord. Landlord got back with me a few days ago saying they didn’t mind a dog either. I asked shelter if they can test if dog is cat aggressive but they said they only test for human and dog aggression. The dog is a 35lbs, looks like a staffy mix.

Just unsure if I should leave things alone, or shake our lives up a bit, having a developed frontal lope is lame, I miss just doing things on a whim 😂

So now my question is…how did it work out for single adults to bring in a dog with a cat already in the home? Was it doable? Has it “ruined” the cat’s home or changed its personality? I don’t mind the effort of baby gates or the slow introduction and I’ll be taking the dog out to parks and rollerblading like I used to for exercise, but I do not want to create an atmosphere of discomfort for either animal. I’m getting told by immediate family it’s a bad idea, I wasn’t trying to get a dog but the idea of that sweet baby at the shelter is killing me too…he tried running after me and I broke down in the parking lot.

When to know it’s time to put down my senior dog

I have a 16 year old senior dachshund that was given to my grandmother from a family member over a year ago because they were going to put him down.
He has been incontinent and pees and poops on himself and even on the way to the bathroom outside he will walk and just pee all down the hallway.
I often come check on my grandma and since this dog has been given to her- her entire floor is buckling and her house specifically her room reeks of dog pee and poop from her inability to properly clean up all of his accidents. It has became a health concern and I try to get cleaners in to sanitize her floors but even so the pee has soaked into all the wood.
He can barely walk almost like his back curves in but according to the vet previously he has been in no pain.
He falls often times walking to the backyard and when he is finally outside he won’t even walk to the grass and frolic. He pees some more on the concrete and yelps to come inside not even 15 seconds after being let outside.
He doesn’t really move throughout the day. He does still eat and he drink ALOT of water which is maybe why he pees these huge lakes to the point the floor is soaked in it.
Every other family member I bring up the idea of euthanasia makes me feel like a monster- which I understand like the dog cannot consent to being put down.
I don’t know what to do- giving him to a shelter also seems so cruel because he is 16 like how much longer does he have anyways- and to spend the last days with strangers from yet another homing change.
I don’t know if it’s time to put him down or not.

Dry food recommendations

I took my cat to the vet recently she was having a skin issue, allergic dermatitis and she got an allergy shot for it. The vet also recommended to me to put her on a diet I wasn’t closely monitoring how much food I was feeding her because I have 2 other cats that eat relatively the same amount of food she does and they’re around 9lbs. They eat Purina One sensitive skin and stomach and the vet recommended I cut out the wet food I give them occasionally and that she likes that dry food but said I should switch proteins. She weighs 14lbs and I’m focusing on getting her down to 9lbs and feed her 1/3 cup daily and portion it out.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for dry food? I like keeping them on the food they currently eat because they seem to digest that better and aren’t picky with it.

Any weight loss advice too is also appreciated! This is the first time I’ve had a cat and the vet be concerned with her weight 😅

Advice on step father feeding my dog potentially dangerous foods

So I live in an apartment by myself with my super anxious dog and have been taking her everywhere with me 24/7 and leaving her in my car (with the AC running of course) and it's all I can do no matter how much I don't like doing it because it's not fair for my dog.

My mom (vision impaired) has offered to watch her during the day but her husband (later stages of dementia) cannot stop himself from feeding my dog with whatever he can get his hands on (raisins, chocolate, etc). The hardest part is that with my mom being blind, she cannot make sure her husband isn't feeding her. And my stepdad isn't aware of what he's doing since he's pretty far into the dementia stages...if he was of sound mind I know he wouldn't do it but unfortunately that's the situation.

It has been such a blessing to have her be able to watch her but with my stepdad I am terrified that he's going to feed her something that is really dangerous for her. We've considered two options, one being that I get a crate and we have the crate in my Mom's room and she should be able to keep my stepdad away from the crate and her room. The other option would be to find some sort of comfortable muzzle with a lock on it that would prevent my stepdad from feeding her although I haven't even started to see if such a muzzle exists.

Curious if anyone has any other ideas?

flooring for an indoor bunny cage?

hi people. i posted yesterday about my bunnies feet being a bit yellow. he's a full white bun and in some lights his feet look very yellow and in others they look pretty much white. i was just wondering is there a specific type of flooring or mats for flooring for an indoor pen that absorbs urine and doesn't leave like wet spots he can tread in? he doesn't really pee anywhere except his litter trays which i change daily but i was just wondering coz he doesn't let the occasional one out not in the litter tray. just want to optimise his cleanliness. price is not an issue. thanks in advance.

[Help] My two dogs, Max (Golden Retriever) and Bella (small mix), fight bloody every 6 months. Why?

Hi everyone,

I have two dogs: Max, a 5-year-old Golden Retriever I've raised since his eyes weren't even open yet, and Bella, a small mixed breed who came to us when she was about 6 months old and is now 4.5 years old.

For some reason, they get into a brutal fight roughly every six months. Every time, Bella (the small one) bites Max's feet, and Max bites Bella's neck. They only stop when they've drawn blood. Why does this keep happening?

They're calm with each other most of the time, but then every half year or so, an explosion happens. I'm really worried and confused. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Osteosarcoma diagnosis but 2 vets are not agreeing and I don't know what to do

Sorry for the length but I am beside myself with what to do. On 3/16/26 My 5 year old border collie/aussie mix was trying to dig under the goat fence for some reason(she's not a digger so not sure why).. I'm not sure how long she was doing it but she managed to rip off a section of the fence and that is some pretty thick gauge metal(basically same as a residential chain link fence so she musta been violently going at this thing for a while).. I told her to stop so she came over to me and she was limping. I've had dogs limp all the time and it usually goes away in a few days, I assumed she strained something. After a week of limping I took her to the vet(they're very well respected and have in house specialists) and she did xrays, went over them with the oncologist and head surgeon and they all agreed it is osteosarcoma in berrhght shoulder. They told my she's not a candidate for amputation. She told me my girl had maybe 2 months before the cancer spread to her whole body and kills her(2 months is the standard for untreated osteosarcoma). They gave me a bunch of meds, told me to spend as much quality time as I can with her, don't take her on walks or let her play with her sister as the leg can just break and that's a horrificly painful and often worse for the owner to have to live with. They recommended euthanasia within the next few weeks and sent me home with a list of mobile euthanasia places. I obviously wanted a second opinion. I then took her to the vet that my parents use for one of my girls other sisters and I had them do imaging and opted for a fine needle aspiration which actually turned into a bone biopsy. The results were inconclusive. They did get to test the muscle and blood from the procedure and no cancer, bacteria, or fungus observed but they weren't able to test the bone for some reason(bummer cause it was super pricey and a really invasive procedure). So this vet tells me she doesn't even think she has cancer and that the "mothing" in that joint may have been something she was born with or something else(but really no true diagnosis) and when I told her I was advised to euthanize her she literally said "I don't know what vet said that but that's crazy". While we were there I also had them test for blasto fungus and that came back negative. She stopped limping about a week after the procedure So, now I got differing opinions so I took her back to the original vet few weeks ago(6 weeks after the initial xrays) and she took new xrays and to her surprise the legion had not grown at all, she was in no pain while having the joint manipulated, and she had no tumors anywhere. I asked if this was such an aggressive cancer with a 2 month prognosis if she would have expected to see further damage to the original legion and also spreading to other areas to which she replied "I would have expected to see that".. But then she couldn't give me any reason why it wasn't progressing like it is "supposed to". A few days later she sends me this huge long email about how she once again went over the imaging and test results with even more of the specialists and they all agree cancer and humane euthanasia. That was 3 weeks ago. So here I am with a dog who shows zero signs of pain, no limp, no behavior change, still wants to jump up on the couch, still wants to chase rabbits etc, so I started taking her on short walks just cause it seems like torture for her to just sit inside all day and do absolutely nothing especially when she's a farm dog with high energy breed mix, and she seems totally fine. Time wise; it's been 9 weeks since she injured herself which is 1 week past when I was told she was going to be dead. I have absolutely no clue what to do. There is an obvious void in the xrays in shoulder but I'm getting 2 vets advising wildly different courses of action and all I want is the best for my girl. If I have to euthanize her I will, but I refuse to do that when I have literally zero proof she has cancer, 2 different opinions, a dog showing zero signs of discomfort, no progression of a cancer that was supposed to have already spread and killed her. What on earth am I to do? I couldn't post images for some reason so here's links to the xrays.

3/24/26 https://ibb.co/g85VgPW 5/1/26 https://ibb.co/zhSJTRsg And here's one of her just cause https://ibb.co/gFVmhMXJ

Neighbors dog outside 24/7

Hello all!

I have a question. Can I make a report or claim against my neighbor?

My neighbor has 2 dogs. Both of them apparently are allowed to go in and out of their house at will. However, they are out during super hot weather or during ice storms (I live in Oregon).

These dogs are incredibly reactive barking the entire time. It is hard to tune them out. I also suspect they never take them on walks. Since I work from home and I dog sit my family's dog often. I take the dog on walks constantly and I haver seen them on walks. Or anything similar. The dogs are exclusively in the backyard.

Can anything be done for these poor babies?

Any advice is appreciated.

Vet Recommendations

Hey guys,

I’m posting here for advice on finding an affordable/good vet with the capability to perform surgeries in the Conroe area. My girlfriend’s dog was
diagnosed today with bladder stones through Petco’s “Vetco” vet. At first they thought it was a UTI, but upon a follow up visit, they performed an xray and confirmed it as bladder stones which needed surgery to be removed. At the end of the day, the care is needed. However, both vet visits totaled over $1000 and online says the surgery can be anywhere from 1500-4000. She just moved into an apartment and even with the care she received (missing bladder stones which require invasive surgery) I can’t help but feel this has all totaled up to more than it maybe “needed” to. Does anyone have any recommendations for a vet which might be less predatory in pricing for visits and the surgery or is this just how it has to go?

Thanks in advance

Cage for mouse?

was gifted a mouse but its cage was not adequate. Im searching but Tanks are very expensive to buy new plus adding on a mesh topper adds an additional 20-30.and im not diy handy for a bin . So im looking for an alternative somewhere in the middle.

Mouse people thoughts on this for 1 male mouse? Sides have acrylic panels on them not just wood. And the back would go against a wall.

Help for an overgrooming cat before I spend $700+ on allergy tests?

I've got a beautiful 6 year old cat who has been overgrooming to the point of giving herself scabs. She's been wearing a cone since Feb. I've been doing my best to help her, but I wonder if I'm missing anything or if there's anything that I should discuss with her vet. I would love to get her out of a cone and back to her old self. I've got an appointment with a veterinary dermatologist next month and it will be at least $700.

Here's the whole, long story:

It started last Dec. She gave herself a scratch, she over groomed it, then it got infected. After $1200 urgent vet visit and 3 weeks of treatments (antibiotics and animax) she was better. No history of overgrooming before this.

In February, she began overgrooming again, this time on her stomach. She took off most of her tummy hair overnight and gave herself several boo boos. I took her to the vet and they put her on a hypoallergenic diet, a short course of prednisolone, and gabapentin (50mg twice a day) to help with her discomfort or anxiety if the overgrooming was psychological.

At the same time my other cat was very sick and I was stressed trying to save him and navigate all his medical needs. Eventually, it was revealed that he had an aggressive cancer and it was clear that he needed to be euthanized, so a vet came to our home. I let my girl-cat smell his body to help her understand what had happened. My heart was broken and she was clearly shaken after he died (even though she barely tolerated him when he was around).

For a while in April, she was doing great---her tummy looked good and she seemed calm. I've tried taking the cone off, it went great for hours at a time... then I let her keep it off while I ran errands as a test. I came home to new boo boos.

She got put on cyclosporine last week, and I know it's too early to tell if it's working, but I just gave her a cone break and she immediately started overgrooming.

She's been on Bravecto for flea meds this entire time.

I have been giving her conventional pill pockets, which I know breaks the hypoallergenic diet, but there's no other way to get her to take pills. Please trust me on this.

I've got a derm appointment that is part of a top-rated vet school. They warned me it will likely cost $700+ for allergy tests. Is it worth it?

I'm so exhausted and broke from two sick kitties. I've thought about taking her off gabapentin and cyclosporine (and therefore pill pockets) and seeing if the strict diet helps.

Timeline/Stressors:

Nov. - my ex and I broke up, he moved out (we'd been together her whole life)
Dec. - my Christmas cactus bloomed
Dec. - girl kitty starts overgrooming the scratch
late Jan. - my boy cat got sick
late Jan - new roommate moved in (though she loves the new roommate)
Feb. - Christmas cactus bloomed again + our area had a ton of pollen
Feb. - girl kitty starts overgrooming belly and legs
Feb - girl kitty started hypoallergenic food
March - my boy kitty died
March - I connected the Christmas cactus timing and rehomed the plant
April - doing better, then overgroomed when coneless
May 10 - started cyclosporine

Phenobarbital may have killed my dog.

My 8 year old German Shepherd and 3 seizures in the span of 3 weeks - 2 happened in the same day. I took her to the emergency vet and they said that they would like to keep her overnight and complete a loading dose of phenobarbital every 2-4 hours to ensure she doesn’t seize again. They suspected brain involvement but the goal was to keep her comfortable until we could get her into a neurologist.

The next morning the vet called and said she handled treatment well and was able to come home. We went to pick her up and they told us she would have an unsteady gait, possible leaning, etc due to the phenobarbital. Which she did have but seemed pretty mild. About 2 hours after she got home, she got off the couch, collapsed on the ground, began panting, almost like reverse seizing, she drank 3 full bowls of water, couldn’t hold her head up or her eyes open, so we called the emergency vet back and they stated it was normal to see these changes. In my heart, I knew it wasn’t normal and then she peed all over herself which is something she would never do, so I knew something was wrong. We picked her up and brought her back to emergency vet.

Once there, they came out with a stretcher and said they believed she was having breakthrough focal seizures and they would try keppra. But the neurologist was on the phone and asked them to not give her anymore anti-seizure meds except oral phenobarbital at 8pm (it was now 2pm) and mannitol in case of brain swelling. They asked us to leave her overnight until her neurologist appointment in the morning.

An hour later, we got a call from the vet that she wasn’t doing well and they began CPR. They got a heartbeat back but it didn’t last and she ultimately passed away.

Where this is so hard for me is that other than the new seizures, she was perfectly healthy, all bloodwork was normal and even after the seizures, she bounced back quickly. I’m beating myself up thinking they gave her too much phenobarbital when it wasn’t needed or she had a reverse reaction to it and went into respiratory distress.

Our primary vet reviewed her records and stated that the emergency vet put brain lesion as her cause of death with possible rupture and he told me they gave her 130mg of phenobarbital 5 times through the night, she was 68 pounds. I know there was more than likely a brain tumor or some brain involvement but does this seem like it could have been prevented? I just can’t cope with losing her. Life is not the same. I can’t even function.
