Vet said the only thing left is behavioral euthanasia and I can’t bring myself to make the appointment 🥲

I have always believed that one of my cats was given to me too young and missed some important socialization skills. He has always been a biter, but his behavior has never been anywhere near this severe.

About a week before I gave birth in February, he suddenly started attacking our other cat. These were full-on fights with rolling, fur flying, claws, scratching, and biting. They had lived together peacefully for six years and had never had any issues with aggression toward each other before this. I assumed the behavior was related to all the changes happening in our home, especially with a new baby coming. Surprisingly, though, both cats have been completely fine around our son, and the aggressive cat has never shown any aggression toward him.

The fighting stopped for about two weeks, but then started again and eventually became almost daily. Sometimes there seemed to be a trigger, such as me telling our other cat “no” when he was chewing on plastic, but other times there was absolutely no obvious trigger. The strangest part is what happens afterward. About 5–20 minutes after a fight, the aggressive cat will often try to lick, groom, or cuddle with the other cat, even though the other cat is understandably still upset and wants nothing to do with him. It almost seems as though he completely forgets that the fight just happened.

We’ve taken both cats to the vet, and they found no underlying physical health issues. We’ve also tried completely separating them, doing slow reintroductions, and putting the aggressive cat on anti-anxiety medications with feliway all around the home. Unfortunately, none of these things have solved the problem. They fought again only three days after their most recent reintroduction.

After that last fight, which was about two weeks ago, we decided to keep them completely separated. It isn’t fair to our other cat to continue exposing him to attacks, but we also know that keeping both cats confined and separated indefinitely isn’t a realistic or fair long-term solution.

Unfortunately, the aggression has now started extending to people. He has attacked my boyfriend three separate times while my boyfriend was simply refilling the food and water dishes. We are extremely worried about the safety of our six-month-old baby and my boyfriend’s mother, who lives with us.

We have been to a behaviorist and a neurologist. Neither was able to identify a clear trigger or underlying reason for the behavior. The neurologist essentially told us that this isn’t our fault and that we’ve done everything we reasonably can. We’ve also contacted every rescue, sanctuary, and organization we could find in our area, but none of them are willing or able to take him.

At this point, the vet has recommended euthanasia and I hate it. I feel like a killer. We love him and don’t want to give up on him, but we also can’t risk someone getting seriously hurt, especially with a baby involved now.

I think my 5 month old is teething?

Hi everyone! My son has generally been a very good sleeper since 2-3 months old. As of the past week, we are having lots of crying in the middle of the night and his naps have been absolute crap. He spends most of his days chewing on his tongue, and “complaining” This morning he has been up since 7:20, with a literal 5 minute nap. His eyes are so red but he won’t go to sleep in both his crib and contacting. I used to get 1.5 hour naps in the morning and now it’s 30 on a good day.

How do I help him!!!!!

Cat became agressive 5 months ago, need help

My cat is 6 years old, neutered, and we’re already working with a vet, but I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar before I make the only decision I feel I can make at this point.

About a week before I gave birth back in February, one of my cats suddenly started attacking our other cat. I’m talking full-on fights with rolling, fur flying, claws, scratching, and biting. They’ve lived together for 6 years and had never shown any aggression toward each other. I assumed it was all the changes happening in the house or bringing our newborn home. Both cats have seemed completely fine around our son, and the aggressive cat has rarely shown any aggression toward him. Last week he was out roaming and attempted to bite my son’s butt (he was in a diaper) but backed off when I told him no.

The fighting stopped for about two weeks, then started again and eventually became almost a daily occurrence. Sometimes it seemed to be triggered by me telling the other cat “no” (he loves chewing on plastic), but other times there was no obvious trigger at all. The strangest thing to us was that 5-20 minutes after the fights the aggressor would try to lick and cuddle the other one who obviously was still angry and didn’t want it. It was almost like he forgot what just happened.

We’ve taken both cats to the vet. The vet thinks the aggressive cat might have an underlying medical issue, but said testing is very expensive. We’ve also tried keeping them separated, doing a slow reintroduction, and putting the aggressive cat on anti-anxiety medication. Unfortunately, none of it has solved the problem as they fought again just three days after the reintroduction. After the last fight (about two weeks ago), we’ve kept them completely separated. We’ve done the introduction process our vet told us to follow 3 times now. It’s absolute torture keeping said cat in a separate room but it’s not fair for our other cat to be attacked every day, but I simply feel I have no other option. I am a SAHM over the summer with no help and cannot risk that he lash out on my son while I’m home alone should he suddenly.

The cat in question has been a little strange though his whole life though lol. He doesn’t meow, he bites to communicate and seems to “stalk” around the house no matter what is going on. He only likes to be pet on the top of his head, he hates new people especially men. He’s done all these things since he was a kitten. Black cat is also occasionally food aggressive. This is recent too, he attacked my boyfriend 2x now when he was refilling the food and water dishes. When he went on vacation this past weekend he did it to my MIL as she was simply walking through the hallway when she let him out to roam the house.

Picture of the kitties for reference, black cat is the aggressor

(10k) October Backyard Wedding

We’re are planning our wedding for October 2027. My mother in law is deeply concerned about it being too cold as it will be almost entirely outside. Anyone ever have a backyard October wedding and can give advice to remedy this potiental situation? We do have a fire pit and I was going to put out blankets and my mom has two outdoor heaters but would love other input!

Edit: We are in Connecticut!

Feel like I can’t be upset or complain

Slight rant. I’m a ftm with an almost 5 month old who is seriously an angel. He sleeps 7-7 with no training, only cries when he’s hungry or tired, loves tummy time, and is generally a very happy guy. We haven’t seen a sleep regression at all (yet). Of course though I still have my struggles as this is my first time doing this and everyday isn’t always great. But I feel like I can never complain or ask for advice or just rant because my response is always “you have a great baby what’s there to be upset about” or “we have it worse, be grateful”

What activities are we doing with our 4 month olds!?

Hi! I’m a first-time mom and a teacher spending the summer home alone with my baby. As much as I love this time with him, I’m starting to feel like I’m losing my mind because every day feels exactly the same.
I’m looking for ideas for activities we can do at home during his wake windows. Right now we rotate through tummy time, his kick-and-play piano, practicing sitting, talking and singing to each other, letting him roll around, exploring different textures, and other similar activities. We also try to get outside when we can, but it’s been raining here for the past week. It feels like we’re doing the same few activities over and over, and it’s getting really repetitive (at least for me 😅) Part of me wonders if I’m just feeling burnt out, but another part of me worries that I’m not doing enough to keep him engaged. For those of you with babies around this age, what kinds of activities filled your days? My son is 4.5 months old, for reference!

What to do

I’m conflicted. I’ve made it 4 months somehow! I went back to work at 8 weeks and with the nature of my job (I am a special education teacher) there were many days I missed a pump/s because I had a child in crisis that I could not just leave to go and pump during or a meeting I needed to attend. I also went back to college 4 nights a week. So for the past two weeks I’ve pumped maybe 2-3 times a day. My supply dropped from 22ish oz a day to now about 8. I have combo fed from the beginning so I am not afraid of formula. Part of me wants to try and get my supply back now that I’m on summer break and my class ended yesterday but I don’t know how doable this is as I am with baby all day M-F with no help. Frankly I am exhausted and depressed and want to be done but I also had a goal of 6 months :(

Sleep/Daycare

I’m a teacher and my son will be starting daycare at 6 months in August. His current bedtime is 8:30 and he’ll typically wake up around 5:30, eat and go back to sleep. But with daycare, we will need to be out the door by 6:30am. Should I start pushing back his bedtime to like 6:30-7 so he can get as close to 12 hours as possible?

Too late to try and increase?

Hi! My son is about to hit 3 months and I have been pumping since about 2 days after he was born. I have only managed to get my supply up to about 22oz a day but when I returned to work at 8 weeks, my supply took a hit. I try to maintain the same schedule 12,3,6,9,12,3,6,9 but I am a special education teacher and if a student is in crisis, I unfortunately can’t run off and be like “gotta pump!”

I want to be at least 30 oz but fear it may be too late for me. I know I have to be better about my water intake which could be a huge factor for me but I make sure I have 1-2 electrolyte drinks a day.

Back to work schedule

Any teachers in this subreddit? I just went back to work 2 weeks ago and I’m struggling to establish some kind of a schedule. I’m specifically a special education teacher so my schedule varies day to day and I don’t always have a moment to go pump until my planning time or something which means sometimes I have 5 hours gaps between pumping.

Still trying to increase my supply 3ish months PP (I make about 22oz a day) and I know an established routine would help. Currently I am doing 5am when I wake up, 8:30(when I can), sometime between 11:15-12:30, 2:00, 4 when I get home from work, 7 and 10 before bed.

I went back to work at 8 weeks postpartum and my baby is at home with dad until June 1st, then his grandma until June 18th (I’m a first year teacher who couldn’t get FMLA). I can’t help but think that our bond is being diminished because I’m at work and he only really sees me for about 3 hours of the day. I also feel awful because by the time I get home I am absolutely exhausted and have little to no energy to be fully present with my baby which absolutely pains me. I’m also starting college courses again in 3 weeks. I don’t know how to be all these roles at the same time but I know somehow I’ll make it work :/

I have a cold and took Alkaseltzer cold medicine and I’m realizing my supple drastically decreased probably because of that. FTM and totally forgot. what do I do to get it back to normal?!

This morning it seems a little better? I’m typically 3oz on both sides for my 6am pump but at 1.5oz. Was getting 1oz since 6pm last night.
